NEWS FLASH!

AP reports that other people live in the world. Guys, you are not alone out there. If you want to travel on a plane without other passengers, get a private jet.

It's rude of people to call this kid a "brat". You have no idea what the facts of this story really are.

There are all kinds of rude people in the world. On planes, in restaurants, at stores, at work, etc. Want to avoid them? Stay home.

Kudos to the airline for kicking them out. Maybe these people will next time be more considerate about other passengers instead of saying "oh, it is just a kid, let him annoy the hell out of everybody"
Is it really any different than an adult sitting next to you that thinks he/she, by virtue of the fact they are sitting next to you, can jabber to you the entire flight?

Personally, I get on an airplane and open a book and promptly fall asleep...I don't like to talk to people around me (probably because I find it hard to hear on an airplane) I don;t like to hear kids screaming either.

But, this child, according to the reports was not aggravating anyone but the Flight attendant. That airline was way wrong.

When I flew for the Air Force, we routinely carried military dependents and their children on a space available basis. We had more than one child that was annoying. You make the best of it and deal.

On one occasion, a mother was asleep and her son would not stop talking to us...so we took him up front to see the cockpit. When the woman woke up she panicked a little...the crewmember in the back told her he'd call up front...the flight engineer came back with his hair all mussed and his flight suit off one arm...went up to the woman and said "lady, I've been all over the outside of this airplane an can't find your kid anywhere!" She didn't find the humor...we took her up front and she was fine after that!

Good lord! what ever happened to common sense?

As a parent of a 4 year old I know you can never tell the reaction of child in unfamiliar places. What exactly do ppl mean by "discipline your child"? Beating the hell out of him untill he comes out of a temper tantrum? (which wasn't even the case). Giving him a time out at the tail of the plane? I wasn't there, but the only facts gathered don't support an excuse by the airline. The way it was handled only shows the lack of common sense on the part of everyone involved. That started with the attendant. The pilot is the boss, he should have made sure the problem didn't involve a toddler. And finally the airport authority, they are the ones in charge of security. But they all went along with the one at the bottom of the food chain.

What's next? Those who are lucky to have grand parents, you should travel with them. God forvid they complain about the presidents policies, and out the door they go in mid air.

I cant count the times I have been annoyed by poeple over the age of Ten. On our recent flight to Fort Lauderdale from Chicago I had a pair of Eastern Block women Talking NON-STOP the whole flight. They spoke very loud and the fact that it was a different language(not their fault of course) I could not tune them out.

On the flight back I had a teenage girl who would NOT dtop kicking and jarring my seat. This was the worst leg of a flight ever for me. I even rudely put my seat up and back quickly and forcefully to try and get the point across after my failed looking back at her when she did move me. My wife said she was putting her knees against my seat and was re-adjusting herself often. I came about 2 hairs away from verbally asking her to quit.

But small children on the other hand...feel for the parent and the child. Tolerence was created for children and should be used often. As someone said earlier...if you dont want to be "bothered" by children while flying...charter your own jet. Or better yet start up your own "Adult only" airline.

On our flight back this week there was:

1) A kid playing a FLUTE! (we think he bought in the Cancun airport)
2) Loud gum poppers
3) Not one, but two crying babies
4) Guy with his ipod so loud the whole plane could hear

I like to make little jokes to whomever I've traveling with. I said to Jen, "Give that kid a pacifier!" and she said "I'm gonna go over there and shove that flute.." But we would never complain to anyone. I don't have kids, but I always feel kinda bad for the the parents...

I think they tried this, it was called Hooter Air. Sadly, they stopped service in January of 2006.

I totally agree.

I hate hearing people say, "well MY kids never...." (acted like that, said that, cried like that). When I see a child in a temper tantrum, I feel badly for the parent, knowing from experience that there is not much the parent can do and tantrums are a fully normal childhood occurance and have nothing to do with bad parenting. Often when I see a child crying or screaming in a lineup or wherever, I will try to talk to them, distract them...often that is all it takes is someone from outside taking a moment to help. You know the saying "it takes a village to raise a child" ??

Early in my dating career with BonnyW we were in a nice restaurant (nice for our salaries at the time, and they had margaritas) this 10-year old kept running around the restaurant and yelling. As he came by our table, where romance was blooming, I said in a stern voice and that look "Go sit down". I got lucky, he did.

But then again, kids are kids, deal with it. Except for the kicking the seat in front of you issue, got to draw the line at that one.

Love teh story Mike! And that's what works, really.

I had a kid of about 7 kicking my seat repeatedly once. I could have sat there the whole trip getting angrier and angrier and thinking what bad parents he had to let their child kick the seat.....instead I turned around to the little guy and politely and happily said, "hey bud...it's kind of bothering me when you kick the seat because I can feel it in my back. I'd really love if you didn't kick it anymore, can you do that for me?" with a big smile. Guess what? He stopped. His mom apologized, but I said "no worries, I just think he didn't realize I was on the other side."

easy peasy.

Maybe there should be a minimum of age for kids can fly, such as maybe 4 or 5. When kids are a lot younger it is very difficult to explain to them about the changing of air pressure in the cabin. Which is one of the more common reasons why they cry, because their ears hurt.

I always know where the kids are going to be on the plane, behind BonnyW.

You bet.

This is a more interesting aspect of fliying:

9 people file lawsuit against TB flyer

MONTREAL - Eight fellow passengers of a tuberculosis-infected man are suing him for $1.3 million as a result of their possible exposure to the disease on a commercial flight from Prague to Montreal in late May.
Montreal lawyer Anlac Nguyen filed the motion Thursday in Quebec Superior Court on behalf of seven Canadians and two natives of the Czech Republic. The ninth plaintiff is a brother and roommate of a passenger.
Eight of the individuals named in the suit were on the same flight as Andrew Speaker, a 31-year-old Atlanta attorney who was in Europe when he learned tests showed he had not just TB, but an extremely drug-resistant strain known as XDR.
Despite warnings from health officials not to board another long flight, Speaker took the Czech Airlines flight to Montreal as part of his return trip home. He subsequently became the first American quarantined by the federal government since 1963, and is currently undergoing treatment under isolation in a Denver hospital.
