RV'ing in California?
Well my birthday is coming in Sept...We are planning a Disney trip but since we don't know exactly when we can go (hubbys job) it has been hard to plan. Sooooo...I had a brainwave. We are going to take the trailer down. Head into Oregon then down into Cali. I am familiar with the Oregon Coast & RV parks but not Cali. Looking into staying in Santa Barbara, San Jose, San Fran, Anaheim, San Diego.....& or ????? Any thoughts or suggestions so I can look into places? Anyone stayed in a park around Disney? Where should we avoid?
Thanks all! ![]() |

do you want to stay on the cali coast? there are state parks, private campgrounds, and koa's all the way along the coast. the koa's and the private campgrounds can get pretty spendy though.
heres an rv park near disneyland. i haven't stayed there but have seen it. you can also get package deals with tickets and camping. anahiem is a good area. the area around disneyland is especially good. you shouldn't have any problems. the places we camp on the north coast then are fort bragg (you can ride the skunk train to willits), gualala, fort ross (old russian fort), bodega bay, the russian river, monterrey, half moon bay, pismo beach, etc.
there are great spots all along the way with some great sights and wonderful seafood. here are some sights: The Bodega Bay Web Site Pismo Sands RV Park |

While you are visiting Syl, check out all the wine tasting in her area.
Outside of Buelton on a long winding road to the beach is a nice little campground called Jalama on the beach. It's a long drive (about an hour from the highway) and the same way back out. This campground has to be evacuated when Vandenberg (about 20 miles north of the campground) sets off a rocket. South of Buellton, but north of Santa Barbara along the coast. There are a couple of decent campgrounds along the beach. Bring something to clean the tar off your feet that accumulates on the beach. Rincon and El Capitan. (Requires reservations) Between Ventura and Oxnard along the beach. McGrath State Beach. Swimming is a little rough here, but just north in Ventura it's not too bad. (Might require reservations). Lots of kite boarders in Ventura at the point. South of Oxnard closer to Malibu Leo Carillo State Beach. I think this campground is too crowded and loud. On the north side of the highway. Walk under the highway to the beach, not a lot of swimming here, kind of rough. Lot's of windsurfers and kite boarders late in the afternoon. But good swimming beach about 10 miles south at Zuma. Our favorite beach is connected to Leo Carillo State Beach, it's called Nicholas Canyon. South of Malibu I'm not sure. Some other places we like that is not too far from us are in the Sequoia National Forest. Due east of Bakersfield, north of Lake Isabella. Sometimes along the Kern River, but this can get crowded and loud (decent trout fishing). A campground we frequent is called Horse Meadows, it is about 20 miles north then east and finally south from Kernville; takes about 1.5 hours and the last 6-8 miles are dirt road, middle of nowhere 40 sites very few people in them. You may be too big to to maneuver in the campground proper. |

We also camped in Pismo Beach, Lake Lopez, and Lake Cachuma. We enjoyed all of them. When we lived in the Los Angeles area we would camp at Leo Carrillo State Beach since it was an easy drive out of town and you felt like you were OUT of town. But this was not one of my favorites. When I lived in Santa Barbara we'd meet family at El Capitan State Beach or Refugio. Both nice. I love, love, love Disneyland but I never camped there. We had annual passes for years. I've seen one campground on the back side of the park...is there a back side any more? Anyway it was right down the street unless they've done away with it because of all the building.
