Question What makes a marriage work? (quick quiz)

If you have already seen this, don't give away the answers right away, please. Give 'em a chance -- let's see how peeps do!

A research survey on the above noted question was released just the other day, comparing the percentages for various answers today and in 1990. People were asked to rank each item as
very important
rather important
not very important
and a system was used to tabulate the value of each item.

Not too surprisingly, perhaps, the top 2 answers each time around were
  1. Faithfulness
  2. Happy sexual relationship
However it gets a little less predictable as you go down the list beyond those, at least if you ask me. For the most part, percentages changed a bit but ranking of the following 7 points did not, between the two rounds of the poll.

See if you can put the remaining ones in order, or at least guess at the 1-2 that came next on the list and the 1-2 that came in last, as least important.
  • Sharing household chores
  • Adequate income
  • Good housing
  • Shared religious beliefs
  • Shared tastes & interests
  • Children
  • Agreement on politics
(Hint: 1 of those 7 was by far the clear loser overall, falling far under even the item deemed next lowest on the scale.)

Off you go!

Steve

This of course are my answers if an equal number of men and woman took the poll.

If it were all men or all women it would be skewed much differently

Mostly that Whaaa...?!? was in reaction to Tappy's comment about me being grouchy, lately.

I of course already saw the survey responses when I ran across the article in the first place, so hard to comment here before just indicating what those responses were. However I will say I was rather surprised about a couple of those 7 coming in lower when I thought they'd be high, and a couple coming in higher when I thought they'd be low.

Most people here are on target in indicating "Agreement on politics" as being low in importance, according to this survey. It's the one I referred to in the hint in the original post, coming in much lower than any other response in terms of perceived importance to the relationship. (How much of that could be due to people not being politically aware or involved, I wonder...) But I'll give it a little more time before putting up the rest of the survey results to see what more reactions may still come in. Maybe post that along with the link to the accompanying article tomorrow morning, actually, as it's getting late.

Good night, everyone -- sleep tight.
