We spent the afternoon in Tulum and saw some amazing clouds. We always go (sundays) to the same spot; we love it there.

I just started looking at this thread...this is an AMAZING picture! Great great job!

Being a person who likes Canon and one who has to approve camera purchases, here is what I would recommend:

If you want an SLR, a nice model is the digital Rebel. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of a professional SLR but it does have a lot of options that you don't get with a point and shoot. You can get one for around $500, depending on what you want to get with it.

If you want a decent point and shoot, I highly recommend the Canon S3 IS. This looks like an adolescent SLR (not full-sized SLR). It is not an SLR, however. The camera has a great optical zoom and takes great video (particularly for posting on the Web). The S3 IS also has "image stabilization," which is great after a night of Playa craziness at places like the Tequila Barrel.

Thanks for sharing this awesome photo jamnkats

I love the contrast between the puffy white clouds/blue skies and the stormy clouds/rain. Awesome!

Did you use a circular polarizer for that shot?

Also, I notice a little bit of barrel distortion (the horizon curves up towards the edges of the photo). What kind of lens did you use and at what focal length were you shooting?

Thanks again for sharing

Of course he's petting a dog. Wherever we go with Andy they all seem to know he's the doggie man... Sorry I didn't get a pic of the puppy, he was really cute, half black lab!
