Coming to Playa + some questions

Hellow!

I will introduce myself first (my first post). I'm Pieter and live in belgium (for those who don't know where that is, it's above france) and 28 july I'm going for the first time to mexico. We will be staying in the Resort RIU Lupita. I'm rly exited and I hope it will be fun! I have browsed the forum for information and found alot of it, but I still have some questions, so I hope you guys can help me with it.

- Few days ago we recieved a letter from the travelagent telling us the beach is seriously damaged (by erosion). Is this true and how bad is it?

- How is the hotel Lupita? (rooms/food/animation/...)

- Is it possible to rent bikes? (travelagent couldnt answer this q)

- What things/places should we visit/do for sure?

Thx in advance

Cheers
Pieter

ps: hope you understand my english

Hi Pieter. This question is impossible to answer since it is, basically, the entire point of this site. If you share more information about your likes/dislikes, maybe some people can help out.

Well, one thing I was so glad that we did was visit cenotes. I absolutely loved them. We took the Tulum & Beyond tour through this site and it was amazing (it includes a visit to 2 cenotes). I also loved snorkeling in Akumal Bay because I saw a stingray and the turtles. My trip report has tons of pics. it's in the All Inclusive forum.

Click on the trip planning tab at the top of the page and look to the left at all of the tours. I am sure there are some you'd like.

Depends on what you're expecting. It has been (a lot) better, though.
You'll find more in this thread:
just looked at pics of playacar beaches

Pieter,

The Riu Lupita isn't ON the beach, it's a bit inland in Playacar and when staying at this hotel, you would be using a beach club the Riu people set up for guests of the Lupita (there is a shuttle provided). Unfortunately, the beach there has eroded quite a bit, and it's a problem indeed, but one can not control Mother Nature! I'm not sure just how much of beach is left directly infront of the Lupita beach club as there are various degrees of erosion depending on the actual hotel - but you'll still have an ocean to swim in and some kind of beach (regardless of how small it is) to lounge on. And if you don't want to use the facilities at this beach club, you can sit on the beach in front of the Riu Playacar or the Riu Yucatan as well (sister properties you are allowed to use) - the situation may be better there.

Last I heard, there were bicycles for guests to use in front of the Riu Tequila (another sister property). I'm not sure what the protocol is for taking them - I don't believe there is a charge - but I would just ask about this when you get to the hotel.

Memories of Playa

I ran into a stranger today who is leaving for Playa in 2 days. We spoke briefly about Playa but I couldn't help but tune out her response to "where are you staying?". All I could think about was my 2-week vacation to Playa at the Gran Porto Royal on the Quinta in April. I can't wait to go back. It was so amazing, but everything about Playa in April is amazing. I know you all know what I am talking about.

Hi Pieter

There is a great golf course right in Playa that you should check out if you like to golf, I think it's next to one of the Riu hotels...you can't miss it. I would not miss going to Tulum either to see the ruins, or Coba if you want to go into the jungle more. I would spend a whole day in Tulum, starting with going to the ruins, then off to the beach (El Paraiso Beach Club) to spend the day there, and have dinner at Zamas or Mezzanine on the beach in the evening. (Can you tell I love Tulum?)

This website offers great tours to Coba & Tulum, and some other advneture type stuff like zip-lining...check it out here http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carm...ning-menu.html

Playa has many great places to party, and depends on what you're looking for. Lounge? Live music? Dancing? Something on the beach? Local bar? If you walk on 5th Avenue and the surrounding Calles, you'll see a taste of all the above. Some places I really like are Deseo or Basico for lounge, Tequila Barrel for a lively bar and great people watching, Fa or Bourbon Street for live music, and head down Calle 12 towards the beach for lots of fun places that stay open very late.

Hope that helps!

Now a question for you. I have a 6 hour layover in Brussels in a month and was thinking of hiring a car/driver to go have lunch and maybe see a sight or two. I've been to the Atomium already....what do you recommend that might work for my time frame?

Thx shammy and Teezet for the information!

@ami: Golf course ^^ would like to do that, but never done it

I checked the website and have seen some things I'm planning on doing!

And for you layover in brussels, i recommend you to visit the "Grote markt (Big marketplace)" and if you haven't seen 'Manneke pis' you haven't seen brussels!

This is a flower exposition on the Grote Markt

This is the famous manneke pis! Must see! (we also have a girl version of it, somewhere hidden in brussels...try to find it :p

Pieter,
As a previous poster mentioned you can explore other beaches if the one right in front of the hotel is not what you expected. With the Riu you can visit all the properties and find the one that speaks to you to hang out for the day. Also, I recommend walking down to the north end of Playa where Mammitas and other beach clubs are located. The beach if beautiful on that end of town and it has a long stretch of sandy beach front to lounge on.
As far as things to do, the town itself is worth exploring from end to end. There are so many fun little beach bars and off the beaten path places to check out by just walking around. Walk down the beach to the far north end then come back via 5th to get the lay of the land.
You will have a great time!

Thanks for the info., sounds perfect! Are the two close together? Also, how far away is it from the airport?

Have fun in Playa, I'll be there in August so we'll probably just miss each other...too bad.

Thx puglia!

@ ami: Yes those 2 are close to eachother! But how far its from the airport, I don't know but if you have 6 hours its possible, take a taxi @ the airport. I'm leaving in 7 days and staying for about 16 days...

Another q: Is golfsurfing possible in playa? (looking @ the pictures of forummembers I don't see big waves)...just wondering
