In playa now, need help
I only have a few minutes of computer time left, so respond soon if you can. I am at Grand Coco Bay with 4 adults and 3 kids. We plan to do a half day at Akumal tomorrow and maybe the rest at Tulum. How far apart are these places? We were going to taxi, does anyone know how to get a taxi that is a minivan or something that we can all fit in?
Another thought was the Collectivos, but I get car sick and migraines very easy and worry about the air conditioning, if any, and starting and stopping alot along the way. For a carsick girl, and some moody (but precious still) kids, including a 6 and 4 year old, what would you recommend? Taxi, collectivo? Also, how far apart are they? Which place should we start our day? Please answer soon. Julie |

I would take a taxi...hire the driver to take you wherever you want, he'll wait for you. It's not too expensive either, and it's very convenient.
Playa & Tulum are about 45min - 1 hour apart, depending on the traffic & your driver. Akumal is loosely in between, so I'd go there first, then on to Tulum to spend the rest of the day there. ![]() ![]() Hope that helps! ![]() Quote:

![]() Akumal is between Playa and Tulum. We took a colectivo to TUlum... It was very airconditioned, clean, safe, comfortable. If you all arrive together you may be able to all go in the same collectivo. Catching one on the way back could be a problem though. They stop and pick up passengars along the way if there is room, and you probably wouldn't find one with room on the way back, or between Akumal and Tulum. Another alternative could be the Autobus/bus. They leave every half hour from the stations in Playa and Tulum., and I believe I remember the fare is about the same as a collectivo, maybe a couple dollars more per person. Very comfortable. Hope this helps a little |

Woo Pig!
Thanks for your help, my fellow Arkansan friends! I love that Playa Del Carmen!
We ended up getting "hooked up" a little on the down low, by a guy at our hotel. He was great and funny, and there at night, but I never knew for sure what his job was! Anyway, we checked with Lomas Travel about getting a minivan or something to carry 7 for the day, and we were quoted the price of $230 US for 6 hours! So my hubby, who will just strike up a conversation anywhere and tell our life story, told this random staffer at the hotel what we wanted but that we couldn't afford the price, and next thing we know he slips us a card of a guy who has a Surburban and will act as your chaufeur ( I don't know how to spell it) for the day. It was all safe and legal, the guy just didn't want the hotel to know he was recommending it's competitors. Anyway, we called the guy, Manuel was his name, and the next day we have a large Surburban to take us anywhere we need to go for $120 US, gas included. We ended up skipping Tulum, because we were so tired. We saw some turtles at Akumal, but I don't think we ever really ended up where I thought we would be in Akumal to snorkel. It wasn't till our drive out that I saw the sign for Lol-ha, and I wanted to be around there to eat and snorkel, but oh well. We saw a beautiful beach and a few turtles, so we were pretty happy. Thanks for the advice. I kept Manuel's card, so if anyone wants his info, PM me and I'll let you know. |
