it is mexico
their currency is the peso
so...convert your travelers cheques (in USD) to pesos after you arrive.

I gave up with travelers checks 20 years ago. In my case I found I got stuck in some bank all morning trying to get them cashed. More and more places in the US refuse to have anything to do with them, and I even found the issuing bank would not cash the ones they issued to me (and if the bank that issued them can’t trust them…..).

I prefer pesos in Mexico. Dollars can work ok, but as you have change from Euros to something else, why not change to pesos? And if you want to pay for something that costs less than one dollar, you really can’t do it without pesos. American coins are more difficult for Mexican people to change into pesos.

Most of the money exchange booths will cash the cheques for you and give you pesos at the current exchange rate.

I'll answer this in German really quick to avoid misunderstandings due to the language barrier......

Hallo Georgi,

erstmal viel Spaß in Playa.

Both should work but you still need a pin if you are using it for "cash advance" rather than purchase.

I have yet to find a cambio that doesn't accept travelers checks. They work just fine. We split our spending money between cash and travelers checks.
