Fidel wants the embargo
Fidel needs the embargo to have an enemy to rally against. Whenever progress is made to end the embargo Fidel works against it. he needs it more than the US does.
The embargo was put in place to try preasure Fidel to return some of the billions he "nationalized" when he took power. He also took everything from the people who left the country when he took power. This group is one of the strongest voices against ending the embargo. I personally believe if we ended the embargo, the same thing that happened in Eastern Europe after the opened the borders there would happen in Cuba. I think the Cubans would get a taste of what is available and wouldn't put up with living like they do. |

It is just a matter of time before Raoul Castro takes over running Cuba. He will be more "open" to changes from within and from outside of Cuba. He is more likely to open up talks with the US or vice versa. Read the book "After Castro: The Inside Story of the Castro Regime and Cuba's Next Leader" by Brian Latell. Maybe Cuba will let gambling casinos reopen/rebuilt also.

I'm thinking of submitting a question about the embargo for the GOP's upcoming youtube debate in September. CNN picked 30 out of 30,000, so I'll need something catchy?
Also must make sure I'm not mistaken for a republican!
