The sports world is a mess...
As Bonds' World Turns...will Selig watch? Will he "endorse" the biggest record in baseball by simply showing up to see the home runs? Who knows...
Michael Vick...Pacman Jones....Tank Johnson....need I say anymore? Who is the next NFLer to get federally indicted? Oh and now the cherry on top...Tim Donaghy the ref no one ever heard of until he pulled a Pete Rose (even worse then Rose obviously) in the NBA. Not sure how they are going to recover from this whole mess? Oh and a PS...how about the doping in the Tour De France? Will any of this stuff stop? Crazy how the greed seems to find its way into everything... Any thoughts? Just seems it is all coming down at the same time! |

Been watching the Pan American games, all week, from Rio. Not a single doper or cheater. David Beckham's first game with the Galaxy was cool, as well. The Galaxy actually looked like they belonged on the same field as one of the best clubs in the world.
So, keep your head up. Its not all bad. Last edited by PlayadelSoul; 07-24-2007 at 05:13 PM. |

That's the nice thing about MLS. Not too many of us care about it so no Nevada casinos are ever going to take action on it so no one is ever going to be tempted to throw a game. |

.I did catch the Beckham thing...I am not much of soccer aficionado, but isn't he here more as a spectacle? I have no idea what the circumstances of him coming here is...just wondering what that is all about. I thought he was too good (as in talent wise) for the MLS? |

That's the thing.....MLS is a strange league. Unlike "normal" leagues, we have Quirks like 6 hour flights to away games, plastic grass and strike partners who were rush chairmen of their frat six months ago, playing in Denver in freezing temperatures one day then 3 days later in Houston in 95% humidity. Players like World Cup champion Branco were total washouts while guys like Mauricio Cienfuegos & Marco Etcheverry who played for teams that would have been beaten by double digits by Inter Playa del Carmen were some of the best players here. So who knows if Beckham will produce? At the time he signed for the Galaxy, he was not a regular starter for his club team (Real Madrid) and his national team (England) did not want him, either. But as of a few weeks ago, he was playing very well for both teams. I would have to Google this up. But supposedly, one of his kids has a medical condition and the best place in the world to treat it is UCLA so that's part of why he moved to the Galaxy. |

The MLS is good, and getting better. It is not the Premiership, but then nothing is. It is probably equal, in talent, to the Championship League in England (one down from the top) or the Dutch League. There are some good players. If you have a chance to go to a game (perhaps if you are in DC
), you should. I used to have season tickets to DC United, and I love the atmosphere. You will appreciate the diverse nature of the crowd.

Kansas City has Eddie Johnson (supposedly being scouted by several European teams) and a really good Argentinean player whose name I forget.
PlayadelSoul, Blanco scored for Chicago in a friendly against Glasgow Celtic. Did that make the news where you are? |

Blanco's departure from DF and arrival in Chicago was covered. I haven't seen Mexican news in a couple of days, so I may have missed the coverage. |

![]() They need to ban these criminals from competing in thier chosen sport, they break the rules, the law, cheat...what do they expect? A slap on the hand? Out for a few games? Gimme a break I say get rid of 'em! Maybe then others will think twice about breaking the law! (but somehow I doubt it ) I think it would be great if other sport figures were vocal about say.....Michael Vick and the disgusting things he's done (other than Emmitt Smith )

We attended a Super Bowl about fifteen years ago (Redskins V Bills, up in Minneapolis), and witnessed something that wrecked all pro sports for us.
The opening kickoff, and the Bills' receiver ran it back for a touchdown. WE saw this in the stadium. But if you were watching at home, YOU never saw this play. It was called back because the network was still running a commercial! Do-over, and the Bills completely lost momentum. And there was not a mention of it in ANY media afterward. Not even Buffalo's media, and one would think they'd be pretty p'ed! That was just too creepy and too bizarre and too dishonorable for us. We can't watch any sports anymore without wondering if we're really watching what's really happening. |
