Although, I must say, Slim is very philanthropic to say the least (as are Gates and Buffett).

Al, you are killing me. Slim already IS the richest in the world. It's been all over the news. Gates is #2 now. As far as he being philanthropic, in his own way yeah. I know he's donating a lot of cash, but his employees would love to see him in the hands of the Taliban. He should really pay his workers better.

By the way, I really enjoy all your posts, some day I'd like to have a beer with ya (providing you buy, of course)

WRONG. According to Forbes - "The World's Richest People", the ranking is (for 2006):
1) Williams Gates III
2) Warren Buffett
3) Carlos Slim Helu
Now, I expect for the 2007 list, Helu (Slim) will be Numero Uno. Also, if he paid his workers better, he probably would not make it to the TOP DOG position for 2007. And as far as the Taliban, why not just the guerillas in Chiapas (they would take care of him).
Now, as far as me buying you a beer - are you female .
And yes I have been telling everyone that Elvis P(resley) is still alive.

I don't know how to post links yet, I'll figure it out later. Here's a post by Ryberg:

Bill Gates: the world's SECOND richest man
No joke, and it bodes ill for at least one of my new daughter's countries.

Quote:
$68B Slim is 'world's richest man'

Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim is the world's richest man, worth an estimated $67.8 billion, after overtaking Microsoft Corp. founder Bill Gates, according to a respected tracker of Mexican financial wealth on Monday.

A 27% surge in the share price of America Movil, Latin America's largest cell phone operator controlled by Slim, from March to June made him close to $8.6 billion wealthier than Gates, said Eduardo Garcia in Sentido Comun, the online financial publication he founded. Garcia estimated that Gates was worth $59.2 billion . . .

Garcia, who uses Forbes' calculations for U.S. billionaires' wealth, says the 5.7% increase in Microsoft share prices in the second quarter is no match for the sharp rise in valuations of Slim's companies. Shares of Telmex in the second quarter rose 11% and Slim's bank, Inbursa, saw its stock advance 20%.

Mexico has a huge rich-poor divide, with a tiny elite holding most of the country's wealth and around half the population living on less than $5 a day.

Garcia . . . reckons Slim and his family own a fortune equivalent to 8% of Mexico's gross domestic product. For Gates to be worth 8% of the U.S. economy, his fortune would have to grow to more than $13 trillion, 17 times his current wealth . . .

Also, ElvisP, the year ain't over yet. Maybe during the second half of the year HellYou will fall on hard times. Or for that matter, maybe Gates or Buffett will win the largest PowerBall lottery ever taking them past Fat HellYou -
you see, living in Dummywood, you have to think (and live) outside of the box.
