I heard about this on the way home........freakin hilarious.......the last union picket line I saw in Austin was two electricians picketing a job I was working on.....they were there for at least 30 minutes before a concrete truck swerved at them for standing in the middle of the main driveway

Pickets from the Carpenters are all over Northern Illinois. It is a very active union. I do believe most of the people picketing are union members though.

Possibly. I recognize an occasional picketer as someone who had been sent to us before from our hall. Usually not worth a crap as a carpenter.

Not buying that. I am an organizer for the Carpenters Union here in Vegas. We pay our members on the out-of-work list, not for them to go, but to help them out with the bills. We usually have pretty decent crowds at our rallies, no need to pay, but we do anyways.

If those boys are paying the homeless, that means they have everybody working and expecting a crowd from other regions and need to secure the jobs and the wages. What's wrong with 45/hr plus great dental, medical, and retirement benefits?

Organized labor build this country.

Nothing wrong with that at all. I think alot of these on the out of work list need to realize this may not be the appropriate job for them, they're the same people on the bench all the time. At least this is the way I feel about Local 792. I usually will take an apprentice and train him our way if I have that option.

Totally agree. During the boom of the 90's we ran out of boys to fill all the projects, I was a rank-and-file member then. Everyone who showed up with a hammer was given a journeyman's card and sent out to work. After the boom we usually have 800 boys on the bench. About half of them just want to work for beer money and quit after the first paycheck. Many of them very talented, just can't hold a job. As an apprentice I trained a lot of journeymen, had fun at tho.
It is possible that those guys are the ones picketing, being homeless doesn't mean you are not a member. Heck, I had a bunch of very talented partners, showed up every day but just couldn't pay their rent. Their 2-3k weekly pay checks went to the slot machines and BJ tables...yeah....the titty bars too.

You got a point there. We should learn from Mexico, plenty of jobs, rarely a strike (except for Oaxaca), no union greed, no out-sourcing of jobs to the U.S or Guatemala. What's the union wage up to in Mex? 5 bucks a day or something? Carlos Slim is a happy man.

Carlos Slim is expected to become the richest man in the world either this or next year. He will beat out Bill Gates (currently #1) and Warren Buffett (currently #2). Carlos Slim is currently #3 (richest in the world). I guess that the rich get richer and the poor stay poor, especially in MX. Although, I must say, Slim is very philanthropic to say the least (as are Gates and Buffett).
