Blue Agave Plant
Are these grown in the US? Is there some place I could order one?
I have a family member who found the plant fascinating while visiting Cancun (she is elderly), and would like to have one as a house plant. She collects unusual plants. Any help would be appreciated. |

I know my mum had one in Arizona that was doing quite well until it annoyed their elderly shar-pei who in turn attacked and killed that plant. What zone or state does your relative live in? That could make a world of difference in the plants survival rates.
I am still wondering what the plant did to the dog! |

agave webberii is produced in the nursery trade for the southwestern US market.
I doubt you'll have any success tryin to grow it outside if you live north of Dallas. Needs a sandy dry soil as well. Not sure what one would do as an interior plant, but full afternoon sun would be essential.....if you can't locate one, send me a PM and I can dig up a small pup in my yard and mail it to you....just don't tell the Oklahoma Dept of Agriculture about it

The ones you have are beautiful. We had around ten in Yuma. My mom could not get rid of the pups fast enough. One of the plants matured and shot up a stalk that was around 15 feet tall. As soon as it bloomed, it died. My brother and I are taking turns kicking each other because we did not take pictures of it. Our neighborhood was very proud that my mom was able to nurture the plant to this point. Last edited by Sol; 08-01-2007 at 12:25 AM. |
