In praise of Our Furry Dog Friends
The news up here in Connecticut is covering a horrible home break-in that happened in a town ... suburban and affluent ... two thugs followed a mom and daughter home from the supermarket ... staked out their house ... broke in at 3 am ... beat the Dad into unconciousness, then raped and murdered the mother, 17-year-old daughter and 11-year-old daughter ... then set the house on fire. Dad is in critical condition.
While normally I am tempted to crank about all the fur I have to sweep and vacuum up this time of year -- from my two Australian shepherds -- I feel different now. Little annoyances are so worth it, for the security they help give us. Even though one of my guys tends to bark at every critter that enters our yard -- especially late at night -- this year, it's okay. (From reports, the family did not have a dog in the house) Give our pooch pals -- new and old -- big hugs today! (Then delicately pick the fur out of your mouth, and off your clothes )

That is a horrible thing to happen.....
![]() I too am very thankful for my "security" systems! Sometimes they just bark at the air , but when one one them has the deep, warning bark, I know something is not right! (forever vacuming, picking off dog hair )

I only have mini weiner dogs but god forbid of someone unknown comes around. Our 12 lb girl "Killer" is quite the killer and will attack any unknown person. The other one will just roll over and pee on herself
On another board I visit we have an "off list" in which people who do horrible things are added to the list of people who should be "offed." I just nomintated these two people for it. |

Great idea Bufante
Selena, I vow not to yell at you even though there are times that you will bark as loud as you can 17 times in a row. Yes little coffee bean, I counted your barks yesterday. (91 pound fem. chocolate lab)
Lilith, I promise not to bitch at you when you start running incessantly throughout the house barking and whining because you want to go for a ride or a walk. (95 pound yeller lab) Panda, thanks for barking when leaves fall and for yapping when someone walks by our campground. (13 pound black and white Lahsa-Apso/maltese mix) Perla, I will put up with your high maintenence behaviors which are too many to list. You can run off with a pair of my underwear whenever you want. (8 pound tan Chihuahua) We are so lucky to be surrounded by so much unconditional love and devotion. The entertainment in the form of mayhem that your four provide us is priceless. You make it worth it to get up early in the morning. Last edited by Sol; 07-27-2007 at 11:29 AM.. |

What a horrible crime.
When I read about things like that I rethink my anti-capital punishment stance. and damn.... I have cats. They are basically useless AND still leave tons of hair around. Anyone want a couple of cats? I want to get a dog instead. (only kidding, Karen! ![]() )Off topic but why do 'breeder's' keep insisting on these new trendy fake dog breeds, that aren't even breeds? Labradoodles, etc.? That is NOT a good thing.
