I would have to say everyone at Crossroads. I have never been in so much greatness in my life. Personally, Steve Vai, gotta' crush on him, he spoke to me at Crossroads, and his song "For the love of God" sends chills up my arms.

Got that out and listened to it after your post. It is very impressive. I personally go more for the guitar work on the remake of Rock This Town on that same album, though I think it's just more my style of song, and I may also be biased towards it as one of his originals (and as an interestingly thorough makeover of the original, as well).
In the meantime, I Googled "all-time greatest rock guitar" and came up with this long list, FWW. Didn't see how it was created but I thought I'd copy in the top 25 for comparison, if nothing else. I'm afraid there are many I don't know at all (but I was about to say Cortez the Killer, James!). Lots we haven't noted, here, and lots of ours missing! Quote:

Oh and don't forget Kirk Hammett, he was a Satriani student as Steve Vai was. BTW, what about Lemi? Last edited by Lil G; 07-28-2007 at 05:48 PM.. |

[Ah, which makes me think, what about Clapton on another Harrison collaboration, While My Guitar Gently Weeps ? I don't know who's playing which parts, but wow, that's another good one where the guitar work is impressive on its own but also very much fits with and adds to -- even makes -- the song as a whole. |

Jimi Hendrix........"Hey Joe".......the GREATEST guitarist that ever lived....way before his time !...saw him LIVE in the "hey days"...along with Janis Joplin.....
.....never will be another concert to compare. "Hey Joe" i think is a song that everyone turns up the volume on...everytime they hear it......it is just such a classic that blends with the music of today and the future. thread ! brings back memories of the good 'ol days livin' in California ! |

I don't know if this counts since it is more jazz than rock but...
Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin and Paco De Lucia - Friday Night In San Francisco. Some of the most amazing acoustic guitar work I have ever heard. Last edited by bgfangs; 07-28-2007 at 09:11 PM.. |
