Cats and death

I'm sure that some people here have read about the story in which there's a retirement home that has a certain cat, that has a talent of knowing when a person is going to die. When a person is within 4 to 6 hours of dying the cat will jump up on the persons bed and curl up with the person until he or she has passed. They say this cat has been able to forecast a persons demise over 28 times.

The cat was a few hours off once though. I think the story said that this cat has spent much of its time in a hospice and possibly developed some kind of special sense. Keep that cat away from my bed - I don't want that cat curling up next to me. I had three cats and they would curl up next to me every evening in bed. Thank goodness they were not able to predict imminent death.

I wonder though if some of the old folks at the home have a little bet going on. You know they place bets on where the cat is going to go next.

I thought it was interesting that they pointed out that this cat is not typically affectionate. He really only does this when death is approaching. They also said, when it happens, they immediately call the family to let them know. If they shut him out of the room, he paces and cries outside their door.

There are worse ways to die than with a kitty cat cuddled up next to you, helping you make the transition.

I think that Micheal Vick had plans to open some sort of betting/gambling operation with this cat as his next venture into the world of animal cruelty.

Oscar the cat is a fluffy little fellow. I don't think I'd mind him curling up next to me on my way out.

I am unclear on one thing, though; are most of the people already pretty much one foot in the grave? Or has he ever sat near a fairly healthy patient, only to have that patient keel over. Then that would freak me out if he came near me.

I think there is a cameo somewhere for Oscar in the upcoming film "The Cats Like Me Better."

Yeah, maybe... but like MWC said: not if you're not really expecting it!

What they failed to mention is that the cat actually sits on your face.

Being known as a Crazy Cat Lady by pretty much everyone who knows me, I lost count last week of the number of people who stopped me at work to say, "Hey, Karen... Did you hear about the cat....."

So many nights I at least watch Jay Leno's monologue but I missed it last night. Heard that they did a spoof of the cat "in action". All you saw were the kitty paws in the camera shot as they closed around the throat of some elderly person.

Yeah. Sick. Totally sick. But funny as hell - even to me!
