Our Sophie is 9 weeks old now and training is going well. She's almost doubled in size! Time to start in earnest. She has the sit and shake thing that all puppies learn fairly quick. She has learned to walk with us now instead of sitting down and trying to wiggle out of her leash. Now starts the command training (heel, come, down etc).
Enjoy him James...he'll bring years of fun!
Cool...we can compare notes.

...and commiserate when they are running around like fools in about 6 months.

6 mos? Sophie is already acting like a nut case! Here are a couple of comparison photos...we got her at 6 weeks...she's 9 weeks now.

Notice how much she is starting to blonde up (color not smarts)...it will be interesting to see what her coloring is when she is full grown.

Oh, he is so cute! Great name, reminds me of Eddie Van Halen's son (Wolfgang Van Halen!). I was attacked by a G.S. when I was 3 years old and as a result have been a little scared of them ever since, but now that I'm a "dog person" I think I'd love one. They are Michael's favorite breed.

Great. We are really enjoying him. He is a very good boy.

The crate training wasn't working out as well as I had hoped, but I have since discovered that I wasn't letting him out often enough. He has me on a 2:00 am, 5:00am schedule for now. I'm hoping (God, I am hoping) that won't last much longer.

He took to the leash much easier than our other dogs; that was a pleasant surprise. We haven't worked on anything else other than heel and come, so far. Julie is getting the B and schutzhund lined up with the trainer. She is planning on starting in the next couple days.

I can't believe how fast he is growing. When should we expect his ears to stand? With the Corgi, it happened overnight...literally.

Sophie's ears are just starting to stand...she is ten weeks this saturday.

Be careful with the Schutzhund. Our trainer told us it can be very tough on their hips (she doesn't recommend it). Being a large dog breed anyway, they are more prone to hip issues as it is.

Sophie is taking quite well to the leash also. But she hates the hot weather so we have to walk in the evening after the sun goes down.

Sounds like we are on the same schedule! 2 & 5! We did find that draping an old blanket or towel over the back half of the crate and moving into the bedroom settled her right down. I think they get anxious about 1) being alone and 2) being in the open.

Our problem is that Wolfric is too quiet in his cage (a problem that we definitely didn't suffer with our other dogs.) At night, I wasn't able to hear him telling me he needed to go out. So, we had to move his crate into our b'room not to settle him down, but just so he could wake me up. He loves his crate. But, the one that I got last week is definitely going to be too small very soon.

Julie just called me on the way back from his first day of school. She said the trainer was impressed with his attention span.

I am so proud!
