Wolfric is growing really quickly. Still no ears...

We are also down to just one 2:30 am potty-break.

Is he ever growing fast! And look at the size of those paws, wow, he is going to be a big dog.

My sister in law and her family just bought their second German Shepherd. Unfortunately the first one had to be put down at about a year because of severe hip problems (dysplasia maybe?) so they are trying again.

Yes, the GSD is a poster-child for hip-dysplasia. However, there is nothing special about GSDs that make them especially more prone to dysplasia than any other big dogs. It's just being big.

Breeder selection likely makes a big difference too....they got their new one from a different breeder who was more highly recommended.

That was really hard on them having to put their first one down ...and obviously they love GS since they got another one!

Awww- he's sweet!!

Actual the hip-dysplasia also used to be a prob for a while (aside from simply being big dogs) here in Germany as they were breeding the Shepards to have an extremely low back-portion (read: ass), so the hips were suffering from that breeding.

And this: Schutzhund!!
Cracks me up to see a German word in the middle of an English convo.
Just fair though- so many English words have made it into everyday German- so now it's our turn to slowly invade English....kindergarten, angst.......hehe.

Wolfric just turned 7 months. I'm not sure what he weighs, but maybe 45 lbs. or so. We are intentionally keeping him very thin right now, as our breeder/trainer recommended that we keep him down for the first year to save wear on his developing bones.

I am huge GSD fan, now. He is a real joy and a Daddy's boy (much to Julie's chagrin).

Good looking boy James. Sophie is weighing in around 65-70 pounds now. She is actuall still pretty thin for here height. The vet asked us to keep an eye out for Displaysia too. So far no signs of it. She runs like a mad woman but with a normal gait.

I see Wolfric also has some ears to grow into! Sophie's (although they are flat in the pics) are upright normally and look too big for her head!

Hilarious! He's a beautiful dog! I love shepards but have a Rottie (145 pounds) and a mutt (30 pounds) so hubby said no more dogs for me right now.
