Self defense
Why is it that when confronted by a person who is trying to do someone harm or steal another persons posessions, that if a person tries to defend themselves or their posessions, that they come under more scrutiny then the person who is trying to relieve the person from his posessions or life?

Depends on what state you live in. Some states let you protect even your property with force...if need be. Deadly Force is another matter, but I think Texas has a relaxed stance on what you can do to protect yourself and property.
