The first thing I would do is loose the lattice so it would open up the patio to the rest of your backyard. You might be able to wrap the 4x4 support columns with bamboo and blend the rest of the patio cover with paint. You can also stain the concrete on your patio and pool decking to a sand color. Decorate the rest with pots and stuff like others have suggested.

okay to clarify Matt is not thinking about removing what we have rather he is thinking about covering the existing poles with bamboo and attached the woven peices to the existing cover. He found some of the palm frond type thing that can be attached just to the outer edge to create the look from what you can see. It is move a revamp of what we have rather than reconstruction.
second like erica said with the little ones we can get rid of the lattice instead he is thinking of getting the reed like fencing to either cover or replace it. |

We live in the LA area. This is a yard! The new housing developments have yards so small you can reach out and pick your neighbors nose from inside your house. Our last place had an even smaller yard. Our place was built in 1978. you want anything bigger you need to buy a place developed before the 60's or have a million to shell out! Even more the closer you get to LA!
