Red face My "Mommy" wiring is back to normal

I recently had my first taste of what it might be like to have a college-age daughter. My eldest went off to music camp, on a college campus, about 4 hours from home.

I didn't realize it at the time, but almost immediately after coming home from dropping her off, my sleep patterns changed markedly. Woke up about 3 am or so, then couldn't get back to sleep. First I thought it was PMS, but that came and went without changing anything. Then thought it was a summer cold I got, but that, too, came and went without changing anything.

Then we brought my daughter home, and I am sleeping fine again! I truly had no idea that the change in the in-home family chemistry could have that kind of effect on me.

Boy, am I in for it! Any other Moms (Or Dads) get this kind of thing?

Interesting to read this.
My middle daughter is leaving for Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte NC in about 4 weeks. I'm already not sleeping well, thinking about her being so far away.
I know she'll do just fine but still.......

Last year was the first year my kids went away to camp, and I went through the same thing. Not to mention the weepiness I felt throughout the day, which took me a couple days to attribute to the kids being away. It was a very hard start to the week for me, by the end I was just missing them so much I started to get weepy again!

That was the first time my kids were ever away from home without me (other than a one night sleepover at friends'). We have gone away without them twice, but somehow that is different (THEY are safe and at home, I am keeping busy in other ways, etc.) I have also always been wayyy overprotective and never sent them away to camp at younger ages, so it was hard for me to feel that they were safe, and not to worry extensively.

They are going again next Sunday. I hope I do better this time!

Yep, everytime my daughter goes for a sleep over at some one house, I sleep like crap !!!! I have started making her call me on her cell before she goes to sleep (which she hates to do) but even that still does not prevent me from waking up at 3am !!!!

I will not handle the teen/college years very well !!
