Sometimes you can't look at comparable pricing, you just have to figure out what you really want to do. For the cost of our recent trip through the Rockies, etc. we could have flown to Cuba for a week....but we decided this driving/sightseeing trip was more of a priority for us at this time. If San Fran becomes more of a priority for you, then you'll make a way to get there.
Absolutely! My biggest problem is/was waiting to long to book. By the time we decided to look into it (couple of days ago) it was already too late. I should say we planned on this coming weekend.

Things look better for the Sept long weekend. My first few searches are resulting in prices ~ ~$1395 for both flight and hotel!!! Stay tuned!!

Wow, we chose San Fran because a flight to SFO from Denver was $140 round trip/person on Frontier.

The Fall is a better time for SF anyway (IOHO). Summer is vacation season and SF is always packed. After Labor Day, when the kids are back in school you'll find less people, more hotel choices and probably better airfare. And the weather is better in the Fall, especially in October. SF summers can be pretty cold. The fog is in every morning and stays over the City most days until early afternoon, only to return around 4 or 5 p.m. San Franciscans love to quote Mark Twain who supposedly said, " The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Franciso". In Late September or early October the City often gets an Indian Summer with sunny days and temps in the high 70s or even sometimes low 80s. It is a great time of year in The City.

BTW you get huge San Francisco history points for knowing about the Gold Fire Hydrant, the little hydrant that saved the Mission. It's about three blocks from our home. Every year on Earthquake Day (the one from '06 not the one from '89) the neighborhood gathers at Dawn to paint the hydrant Gold and toast it with champagne.

We visit San Francisco several times a year to visit our daughter. The last couple of trips we've stayed at the Broadway Manor hotel on Van Ness and Broadway. Clean, inexpensive ($60/night) and free parking. It's on the bus line and just a few blocks to Fisherman's Wharf. Quiet neighborhood next to Nob Hill.

Last time I was there, a group of us girls stayed at the Hotel Diva.
EXCELLENT service and centrally located. We were trated like Divas...

I attended a convention at Moscone Convention Center --it was within walking distance and was close to shopping too...Nice hotel, great service, I will stay there again.

But Tony and Cheri were SFO residents--I would take thier advice under great consideration.

Hope you have a great trip Electra!
