Yep we are all fine, and now we have some idea of what to expect when the next one hits, at least the dogs were all pretty cool about the whole thing .

Hey, Linda! Just catching up a little and saw this thread. Wonderful work that Andy and Jen are doing (and what amazing hearts they have!). We are new to this PayPal stuff and will be sending a little something to help Toni, Cherie, Heather and the rest of the fabulous ex pats re their efforts down south and want to contribute to the shelter as well. I know this has been posted already, but can you help me catch up? How do we send $ to Andy and Jen?

Thanks, sweetie!

Renee (and Cos)

Never mind ... after I hit send, it occurred to me to check the first page of the thread (duh!). Got the info we need. Have a wonderful time in Europe!

For various reasons , no internet and a hurricane we have been a little out of touch with you all so here is an update for the past couple of weeks with some pics.
As most of you know Vidas is an animal charity and approximatly every six months around a dozen volounteer vets come down to Playa and surounding areas to run a free spay and nueter clinic for the cats and dogs of the less financially well off people here, i was lucky enough to be asked to help and although it was hard work it was also a pleasure to see these wonderful people at work, in the short while they were here they managed to treat around 200 animals, and also give other free medications for ticks ,fleas and skin conditions.
booking in the animals

the operating room
Jody getting prepped
The recovery room, Clair and Bruno along with some other patients, i got a little traumatic with some of the female dogs and pups as they were more heavily sedated and there was a lot of panicky howling and flailing as they came out of sedation.
Bruno and Bernie
a couple of cute Rottwieler puppies
Jody in Recovery
some of the pups just needed to be held until they were fully awake, a lot were very frightened by everything that was going on.
Bruno`s new dad Nolan who fell in love as soon as he saw the little guy and has whisked him off to a new home in the states.
a high point for me was when one of the vets rushed into recovery and handed me this tiny new born kitten that had just been delivered by c-section, i had to keep her warm and rub her vigorously with the towel to get her stimulated, it was magical to hear her first little meow which meant she was going to make it, all three of the new borns and thier mom went home together.
The vets did a wonderful job and the whole thing was a very rewarding experience for me, although there were a couple of thing that kinda spoilt it , one was that this clinic is free and is there to help the poor and needy but there were a few people that turned up in big flash cars who very obviously could afford to pay for these ops but didnt and the other was that some very uncaring person would just tie up thier dog and leave it there (Jody) but these thing happen and the vets treated these animals regardless. It was an honour and a pleasure to be able to do a little bit to help them and my name is def on the list for the next time
Along with Bruno we also found a loving home for Baby (thanks Sol)

and Sugar , Milly and Mia (sorry no pics) all found new loving homes along with one of the kittens
We also managed to get our E-Pet adoption scheme up and running and thanks to some fantastic playa peeps already have some of our long term guests adopted,
Sadly we had to have Gizmo put to sleep after it was discovered that he had Dystemper,
what makes me really mad is that the guy who brought him to us had been told this already but insisted to the vet that he would care for the pup, then told us that Paco had sent him to us, not only did he lie but he also put all of the dogs here at risk, a loophole that has now been filled
Then the chicas came to town and what a lovely and generous bunch of ladies they were, we were given donations totaling over $2500 peso and bags and bags of goodies including much needed medical supplies.
and enough shampoo to last us a while
Unfortunatly due to the impendind hurricane (damn you Dean) the girls were unable to visit us here to meet the dogs and pups, but next time
So the hurricane came and went leaving only a small amount of damage and about 4" of water to mop up, most of he dogs didnt even notice when it hit and slept right thru as demonstrated by my ever alert Xena
Thor was a bit scared (yes i know his name means thunder god !!) of the lightning and noise but he slept next to me and didnt fret too much.
Well thats me pretty much caught up so here are just a few random pics to finish off with.

cute kitties

Sophie soooo naughty
Jody is so much better now
Happy Layla
Thanks all

Can't wait to get there and spend some time helping......I'll surely bring some goodies for the dogs and cats.

I also have someone in mind who I want to convince to get a new dog when there.
He used to have one, actually fed her through puppy-dom as she was very weak. She was a GREAT dog, a lab- when she was seven he had to leave her with his best friend as him and his family moved to England and he didn't want to put her through relocating, also because she was used to roam free.

He was a great Dad to her and has tears in his eyes to the day as she died when he lived abroad.

I know he would be a most awesome Dogdaddy.
When there I'll see if he is ready to adopt a new dogchild into his life. Maybe he will. He's back in Puerto Aventuras now which is a wonderful place for a dog.

What a rollercoaster of emotions reading through your post and looking at all of the pictures. What a wonderful organization to help care for the animals - and so wonderful for you to help them. That little baby kitten was so sweet.
It was good to see so many people there to have the pets spayed and neutered.
Thanks for sharing all of that with us.
And a big belly scratch to Thor from me, please.

I was as excited as Angel was when he adopted Baby. Everyday, I would ask him how she was doing.
That was wonderful that you were there with the doggies and kitties when they awoke from the anesthesia. That is so scary for them. One of our labs gets so upset after she wakes up. Last time, she had to have some x-rays done and after she had awoken, she just kept crying and crying. She cried all the way home from the vet's.

Funny thing was the loudest of the lot was Baby in fact she howled and cried so much and so loud the vets had to give her something to calm her down .
