Hola all, ok just a quick update on the last week at the shelter.... well still no internet but worse still...no water , apparently the water authority turned our neighbourhood off five days ago but of course failed to tell anyone so wash day was quickly changed to tick-picking day, we had a couple of vets visit and Patricia W and her husband from Holland along with our cat-lady Laura, the vets brought down some tick collars which is really cool as we have had a bit of an infestation recently and have had to check all the dogs every day, but these new collars should eliminate all of this...
Ok its official...we are a Registered Charity .... the last few weeks had been a bit of a nightmare starting with the discovery that our passports and visa's had been stamped with the wrong date and were technically a year out of date it took a whole day in Cancun to sort that one out, it shocked us that such a mistake could have been made and could have left us being deported if we hadnt fixed it...so from one major problem to the next...... we have been trying to get our Charity status for quite while and at his request we involved our vet (no names ) and for three months we waited and waited for him to get his act together so we could get it done, so with our newly fixed passport documents we go to see our "friend and vet" to arrange a date with the notary only to be told in a really degrading way that actually we were not needed and basically to go away (ok so it was a bit nastier than that but no swear words on the forum) ,he had already made plans to bring in friends of his and i believe use the shelter donations to fund his plans, turns out he was not that interested in saving animals (if at all) and had in fact his own agenda such as putting on "Dog Shows" and breeding pedigree dogs, we had in the past gone head to head with him over his plan to mass cull the strays and have any shelter animal that had been there over 2 months simply destroyed !!! I mean damn more than half of our dogs eg Ellie, Osa, Sophie and Luna to name a few had been there longer than that and he just wanted them dead..anyway to cut a long story short another good friend of ours came to our rescue and we have finally formed our association and we can really start doing some good here.
I will post some pics soon of the newest additions and i will try to keep you all more updated as to the goings on here at the shelter

Oh Andy, so sorry to hear all this what a nightmare! I'm happy you managed to work everything out, you and jen are the best. I cannot believe any vet would put dogs to sleep if they're ok!!!! How can you study to be a vet if you think like that??? I'm speechless. Thank God for the two of you. Let us know if anything changes with the shelter now apart from the official status.
One last word and then I'm through getting the attention away from this thread: thank you all for your posts about apina, you are a wonderful bunch of ladies and I am happy anyone can count on you in times of sadness and stress. Maureen you are TOO sweet. When I was woken by thunder and rain this am I only thought about my laundry, not apina' posters

Andy and Jen, thanks so much for the update!! I've been worried about you since I knew that something was going on but not really sure what. What a horrific experience to go through not only with your passports but with your vet, too!! How heartbreaking to hear that his vision was so much more different than yours!!

But good people always prevail in the end! I'm so happy that this is all past you now!! And big kudos to your friend who came to your rescue!!

Looking forward to puppy pictures AND my calender!!

UGH! What a loser vet! I know his name (I'm 99pct sure). Are we allowed to post it here so no one uses him again? b/c I had heard he was a good vet...and would probably had used him for him myself. But....I will not use him on principle now. Just that he tried to screw ya'll over...not to mention the killing of 'non bred' dogs.

Let me know if you want me to PM you the name I have. And then, if I am right, I'll post it here.

Right now I'm just glad ya'll found out in time and were able to rectify the situation before it became worse.

Hi Marissa, no i would suggest not using his name even though most people here would know who it is, after all he is Mexican and we are not and he could still cause us a lot of trouble, so no please dont post his name

Of course, I would not say his name without your okay. And I completely understand your decision and applaude your adult attitude. As always, YOU ROCK.

Wow Andy....what can I say???? Well a few things..re: THAT vet WTF????? I'm appauled, shocked, disgusted that a vet, someone who has vowed thier profession to TAKE CARE of animals would even THINK of things like these does he know the meaning of "first do no harm"???? Makes me ill....... (sorry but had to get that out.....)
Was looking forward to wash day pics...but a bit tough to do it w/ no water heh????
Wonderful news on the registered charity now!!!! Will you have any of that info listed on the website? I would like to direct my vets to it to hopefully mule down some meds in March.
Thanks for keeping us posted on everything! You and Jen take care!
