I finally had time to catch up on things here- it's great to read about so many peeps doing such good things for the shelter- and so many dogs finding new homes!

We're coming to Playa in a week and will be bringing some things for the pooches: a soft-sided carrier, chews and toys, etc. My girl Ally-who has once again decided to donate several months of allowance and some Xmas money to the shelter- asked that we schedule the trip so she can visit the shelter, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Sat. the 9th is a bath day!
And Guitar Playa, thanks for that dog behavior article you posted some pages back- after reading it, realized our old Collie girl is just making sure Tommy minds his manners when she gives him a much deserved nip now and again.(Being the boisterous boy he is, it sometimes takes a nip to get her point across.)

Yeay Vero!
Funny, she's looking away from the camera on the photos we took of her at PGs on our last night (thanks so much for bringing her to meet me Andy. It made my night... Even though she headed straight to the guys!)

Dita is such a gorgeous puppy!
And, of course I did notice my big boy under the table.
It seems like he never wants to be far from his best friend Andy!

We can't wait to meet you, Maureen!(And thanks, Ally is a sweety, which makes it easy for me to look like I'm doing something right.)

Actually, Ally has some fundraising ideas she will probably want to discuss with you. She's been threatening to pm Andy (on my account) lately. One of her ideas is a kids' Shelter forum section where kids can talk to each other about animals- I explained to her that these things don't run themselves.

Just came back from my morning walk/(sometimes) run around my hood.....a few houses down from mine was a squad car sitting outside, I think nothing of it, I come back later and I see the local animal control truck pull up, now I know this house has a boxer, I run past and I see the dog in a crate with the owners, cop, and animal control guy standing there talking. Well ALL of a sudden I become VERY upset, tears, sobbing....now I have NO idea what the circumstances are surrounding this, (didn't ask) but it upset me sooooo much......I couldnt get home fast enough to hug my own dogs......(thought I'd share.....)

Yes, we have to try and get our playa time to overlap in the future!...

Although that's a lot easier said than done, in my case...I'm sad to say, even though I drove myself crazy with scheduling this time, trying to fly back into Newark so I could bring George back for Lizlewis, I couldn't get an affordable flight that worked for our schedule

I had a great time at the shelter on Saturday. It was good to met some of the board members The puppies are all adorable, so many of them! Osa is a sweetheart. I approached her when she was sitting on her own and she was quite happy to receive some love. Dita is a lovely puppy, just tons of energy but wanting to be touched a lot. She stood on her back legs for a very long time with her upper body in my lap, just draping herself across me. I suppose she would have liked to just be a lap dog but she is a little on the big side. She will be a good size when she´s full grown.

Thank you Andy and Jen for all you are doing!
Wondering about the two new puppies the ladies brought in while we were bathing others...

That's too bad. I don't think they would take the dog unless abuse had been reported or the dog bit someone. Hopefully the boxer has an up-to-date rabbies vaccination. Let us know if you hear anything.

I wrote about a little yorkie in your other post (slide show) that came into the shelter where I volunteer. The poor little guy was in bad shape and miserable. I got really upset too. I was the first one that noticed it when I went to take him outside. Because he was an impound dog the shelter is supposed to do nothing but feed, water and walk him. I insisted that they look at him and they agreed something had to be done. Once all the mats were out and his ears were free he was like a different dog. He was so hungry too. I hate to think how long he could have been wandering lost.

Uh-oh... you're right, that doesn't sound good.

On a slightly different note, I am noticing a trend: companies assumimg that ALL dogs are dangerous...Fed Ex was refusing to deliver to a friend because her 5 pound teacup "growled threateningly" from behind a door!!!

We are getting messages from our Electric company saying they have it on record that we have dogs and we must "insure that they are secured" if we want our meter read. The message gives the impression that there was a problem reading our meter, so just to be sure something hadn't happened unbeknowst to me, I called. Apparently the meter person just noted that the dogs bark inside the house when he reads the meter.

I know some owners are not careful enough about keeping their dogs out of a situation where someone can get hurt, but this worries me a little. It's one thing to refuse to deliver to someone when a dog has bitten someone, but dogs growl and bark instinctively, isn't it taking it a little too far to refuse to deliver for growling?

As a result of all this, I am keeping Tommy closely confined, much to his sorrow!
He WAS having a truly wonderful time escaping when Ally walked out to the bus: he would run across the street and steal our very elderly neighbor's NY Times right out from under the poor man's hands and THEN!!! growl playfully at the poor man, butt in air, tail wagging madly, when he tried to get his paper back- SO EMBARRASSING.
Our neighbor was very understanding that this is a game- although not a good one for him, as there is no way he could catch Tommy, but I am afraid the paperboy might not be as forgiving?
Now I have visions of Animal Control taking Tom away-for playful growling.

I don't know these neighbors and honestly afraid to ask what happened. I don't know what came over me with getting SOOO upset by this, maybe all sorts of things like everyone mentioned was going thru my mind....maybe the thought of having someone taking MY dogs away........ maybe because my younger female wants to be the alpha female and there a little "issue" last nite with her and "the" alpha female, I was very angy at her.....and felt bad being angry because it's her instincts....I dunno Not a good "dog" morning I guess..... Where's Ceaser when you need him
