Its been busier than usual here at the shelter , there has been a bit of an epidemic here in Playa of kennel cough (according to a couple of vets i have spoken to) and we were hit kinda hard, and sadly we lost one of the puppies (Jackie) after it progressed to pnemonia, all the others have however gotten over the worst and are on thier way back to perfect health.

Many of the dogs have been for thier vaccinations this week in the case of the puppies thier first shots, we also had two more of the girls speyed at the Perrera, Vero and Milly were the next on the list and the ops both went well, and the girls were actually running around this morning as if nothing had happened.

The visit to the Pererra was my saddest to date, nearly all the pens were full with four or more dogs stuffed in them, its hard to explain how upsetting it is to see them in this state, but worse still is the noise.

What gets to me the most is as you walk by the pens they all look at you with this sad hopefull look and many sit and offer thier paws.

This visit was different tho as i was finally able to talk to the lady in charge (Sandra) about some ideas i have had to help more of these dogs (we can do this now as we have recieved our paperwork), i want to use some of the unused area at the Pererra to build pens, we could then take some of the healthier dogs, and with the meds we supply, get them well and fit enough to be rehomed, i also want to be able to suppl food for all of the dogs there and maybe by doing these thing get them to change the "3day rule" and hopefully extend the time the dogs have there.

One thing i want so badly to do is to try and find a supply for the Pererra of euthenasia drugs so that if the dogs have to die it can be done quickly and painlessly.

Another of my ideas is to get internet at the Pererra/pet Shelter, there is at the moment no phone lines there which means when someones lost pet is brought in there is no way to let the owner know and as few people know its location or have means to get there then sadly thier pet is destroyed, i want to be able to put all re-homable dogs and lost pets on the website so an owner can contact us and the dog can be returned to its home.

There were this week three dogs in particular that i needed to try and save, all three are very obviously discarded pets and i have managed to get them put seperate as they all are new arrivals and appear healthy, i have promised Sandra to bring food and meds for them so they can start on the road to recovery.

As i said a visit to the Pererra is always a sad one , i have taken some pics but i want to warn you they are upsetting and as i am not posting them for "shock" value if you are easily upset , please dont page down any further.

The big dog has collar and tags
These all show distemper signs
So very sad
These are two of the dogs i am trying tyo help. they are both Akita's and are so sad and confused, how could anyone throw out thier pet like this, they are very malnourished but will still lick your hand
They are a couple and i have named the male Hoshi and the female Kiki and are probably 6 years old or more
Kiki
Hoshi

Again i am sorry if any of these pics were upsetting, there were many more much worse that i discarded .
Most of you have given us such great and generous support, and without your continuing help we couldnt do this, but i am asking if any of you has a spare dollar or even the change from down the side of your couch (tho no half eaten chips please ) please send it so we can help these beautiful animals,
Thank you
Andy

I'm sorry to ask this- but if they don't have euthanasia drugs at the Perarra, how do they put the dogs down? This is so very sad, but thanks for posting it- it has reminded me to send my long overdue donation to this great cause.

Wow Andy...finally had a free minute to log on after so long (among other things, my aunt died unexpectedly-actually it was a blessing, as she was becoming so incapacitated) and read all your great ideas for the Perrera...you are so right- dogs in shelters have such, sad, haunting expressions. We will send something soon and I'll canvas the animal lovers I know for support.
(Can't help thinking...wouldn't it be great if you had more space?(and help working it too, I'm sure!)

Andy, those pics just broke my heart and I've sent another donation to help with food and meds for those dear doggies.

If you need any help with delivering supplies, please let me know. My 94 Golf is at your disposal!

Honestly no amount is too small, every penny, cent, or rouble helps

Andy... You and Jen are amazing, wonderful people. So heartbreaking about the dogs at the Pererra. I'm looking forward to visiting the shelter in a few weeks, and am still planning to bring another computer and two small pet carriers.

A donation coming in for you Andy. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I don't know where you find the strength to visit there. I don't think I could do it. Thank you for helping the poor dogs.
