The location of the shelter is kept quiet for a couple of reasons. Just PM Andy and he will let you know how to get there. Wash day is a lot of fun and very rewarding.
I was nervous at first about taking a dog as cargo, but I shouldn't have been. It was a non stop flight. Tasha was the last cargo loaded on and the first off loaded at our destination. I talked to the crew about her and they made sure she was on the flight, then treated us to food and drinks for adopting a stray. She did come from the Peanut pet shelter. She did great on the trip, not a whimper out of her. She didn't appear to be firghtened or anxious at all. Until she saw snow for the first time when our flight arrived, she was escorted directly to us by two very nice cargo handlers. And, no one even looked at her papers!

Oh -- thank you Jan for all the details from your experience. Our rescue, Jossie(pictured left) is such a special lady and she has quite a story to tell about her life. From being a street dog, to having puppies very young on the street all of which were lost to distemper (she had it too -- but survived), and to being hit by a car, and to having a pneumonia and being less than 25 lbs. We fost/adopted her to nurse her back to health and she's now a healthy 54 lbs and thriving! We are so lucky to have her. If I do contact Andy for the address information, I believe that will be the end of it for us... we'll be coming home with our hands full.

Yeah - It was pretty special --having to teach her what a toy was. Now -- she's got a HUGE basket full of toy carcasses.... (stuffing and squeakers removed within minutes after first bite). Once I came into the living room where she has made her own little den in our front bay window. I scared the bejeezes out of her... because she was so enthralled -- playing with her toys. She had four or five of them in front of her, and she was just sitting on her bed, and she'd pick one up in her mouth, and put it down, then pick up the other, put it down, and so on... Just like she was playing with Barbie dolls or something. I came up behind her to pet her because it was just sooooo sweet, and the poor girl YELPED... because I had startled her in the midst of her playing. Wonder what her imagination had going on there? Soooo cute.
But, she's quite human-like in her behavior too -- she kind of talk-barks... She doesn't really bark, she makes little quips... and little "woo-woos" to make conversation. She also is a spoiled little princess now. (Our fault) We just love her. Our two cats tolerate her, but they are a happy pack all three of them. If we could, I'd take in every stray possible. That's a dream I've always had....to be able to rescue animals. I'm so impressed with what the folks at the Peanut Pet Shelter are doing! ![]() ![]()

I'm so glad you found this thread and came over to share your story. We have so many animal lovers/rescue advocates here - and you definitely belong! Even if you're not sure about the shelter - send Andy a PM and see if he and Jen could meet you for a beer one evening (he's a cheap date ). I met Andy and Jen at the Beer Bucket and they brought over one of the pups to meet me. They're such great people to meet and know.I tried - but I didn't make it to the shelter during my last trip. Next time for sure, though.

Welcome to the forum!! If you have time, you MUST search this thread back for all the pictures of the dog washes and all the pups Andy and Jen of the Peanut Pet Shelter have saved and cared for. It is truly amazing and so selfless of them. Please make a point to visit the shelter when you go. You will not only meet two of the most awesome people ever, but see what great work they are doing! I promise you won't regret it!![]()

la all, i recieved this mail from a lady here in Playa and thought i should pass it on to you (more for locals).
Hi, I am desperately writing you to see if anyone out there gets to read this message. Today, Sunday June the 8th I went to have a walk with my labrador dog and my girlfriend to the 5th. On the way, approximately the Calle 6 and 5th ave. a beautiful male german sheppard wouldnt stop following us because my dog is in heat. Anyways, i had to take her back home but the dog wouldnt stop following us. We are situated on Calle 4 Nte between the 15th and 20th ave at la kalaka restaurant. Unfortunately, the dog was taken by drunk guys that live n the corner of calle 4nte and 15th ave. The locked the dog in their place and once i went to ask them to give it back to me so i could have a walk with him on the 5th and see if the owner recognizeed me they just wouldnt give it back. Now, my concern is that this is not a dog from the street, it's a trained german sheppard who understands commands in english and they say they will sell it. If someone gets to read this, Please GO AND CLAIM BACK YOUR DOG BEFORE IT FINSISHES IN SOMEONE ELSES HANDS WHO MIGHT HARM HIM. thankyou and hope he gets home safe. I have left of the lady's cell number...just in case
