spay/neuter program
today was a very successful day we manages to neuter 4 cats and spay 2 females! most were ferral cats that we trapped or caught the night before and early in the morning and 1 was a kitten called chip that i rehomed and now that he has 3 months i called the owners back to get him fixed. It is always great to see a kitten that i have rehomed happy and cared for by his new family he even had a cute little collar on!
As most of the kittens that get rehomed are too small for surgery when they are adopted i take the contact details of everyone who adopts and when they are old enough i call them back for the spay/neuter of their cat. Some more good news i managed to get another vet to join in the spay/neuter program. He will also be operating for free i just have to buy all the medications and equipment. So i am now working with 4 different vets on various days of the week. here are some pictures so you can see the cat traps and the vet operating in my home this morning.(cat is asleep with eyes open) |

Laura, the work you do is amazing. I was so glad to hear that you take on the extra task of contacting the kitty owners when the time is right for spaying or neutering.
There is a group locally here that insists on pediatric spaying, before anyone can adopt from them. Their rules are so stringent that they refuse to allow someone's vet to be involved in the decision. They routinely spay 8 - 10 week old kittens and they have only been able to convince one local vet to do it for them. Our own vet doesn't agree with the procedure, preferring kittens to be closer to 6 months old. |
