I checked their website and also called to confirm
Rules and Regulations
  • One small domestic dog, cat or bird per passenger is accepted in the passenger cabin for an $80 fee each way.
  • Carry-on pets are not allowed on transatlantic flights. Only dogs and cats are allowed to/from Mexico and Costa Rica. Call 800-428-4322 for additional requirements for international travel.
  • If you are traveling to an international destination or Hawaii, there may be restrictions. Restrictions vary by destination, and customers should contact the appropriate embassy or consulate at least four weeks before the trip. For travel to Hawaii, customers should contact the Hawaii Animal Quarantine Branch directly for quarantine requirements.
  • Pets in cabin count toward the carry-on baggage allowance. Pets must remain inside their approved container under the seat directly in front of you.
  • One small domestic dog, cat or bird per passenger is accepted in the passenger cabin for an $80 fee each way.
The key is that last bullet point.............one small dog
Can you pull some strings Linda
I'm shocked that USA3000 said no also.........especially since it's non-stop

Hi Loree,

Here's the cargo (Pets traveling as baggage) from US Airlines.....

Exception cities: US Airways accepts dogs, domestic cats and birds as checked baggage on non-stop US Airways Shuttle flights in the BOS/DCA/LGA markets only. Connections are not permitted. The customer must travel on the same flight. Customers should advise US Airways when they wish to transport a pet as checked baggage on a US Airways Shuttle flight.

They don't quote a price, but their phone # is 800-428-4322.

FYI, My boys flew on United ($100 each) to Playa & back.

I love the "Pogo" stories!! He's a character!
Good luck, Maureen

that's the number I called and they did verify the 15 pound weight limit
I'll check with United when I get home from work
I would rather have a non-stop flight if at all possible.
thank you Maureen............he is so cute, how could anyone want to hurt him?

Trust me...you WANT a non-stop flight if you are traveling with a pet as cargo! Some airlines also have tempature limits (I.E. outside temp too hot or too cold) The only time an airline wil accept a large dog in cabin is if it's a service animal. I WISH I had some pull but I don't..... ( I don't work for them)

On another note, we have two things coming up to help raise much needed funds for the shelter, the first will be an on-line silent auction with some fantastic prizes, that have been donated by local business`s and generous Playainfo peeps, more info in the next few days on this one
Secondly, Popeye (our turtle painting peep) has designed and had made some Peanut Pet Shelter watches for us to sell, these are going for $20 dollars with 50% going directly to the shelter, how cool is that, thank you Popeye., here is a mock up pic
He can get these muled down to Playa free of charge (or posted within the US for $5 postage) its what every fashion icon will be wearing this season .
Thank you
I need one immediately!!!!

Loree,

I flew Tommy back from Playa on USAir-they were very organized and everything went very smoothly, but unfortunately they DID weigh him, (twice, as I recall, there was a guy upstairs being all official and rechecking everything at the gate and he took him behind a desk to a scale before he let me board)

Andy was soooo patient about how nervous i was about Tommy getting too big to fly-I think I asked how big he was on a weekly basis before getting him but the US Air reps emphasized that they would be strict about it in Cancun....

He was just slightly OVER the weight in the carrier, but the guys at the counter downstairs were wonderful and didn't make me take him out- they could tell he was TERRIFIED(They were calling me "Tommy mommy" and saying "He looooves you" because he howled when he couldn't see me when they weighed him - it was one of the more interesting trips of my life, let me tell you, I talked to so many people)...

The fact that they WILL probably weigh is a shame, because, truthfully, having seen Pogo in Aug., I think he would fit under a seat, if he was laying down in one of those soft-sided carriers- he's very svelte.

The soft-sided carrier, which I got on sale at Pet Smart for 19 bucks, was great. You have to watch the dimensions on the carriers, because some of the hard ones DON'T fit under USAir's seats.
I really hope there is some way you can get him- he seems like a great dog.

And-don't tell Chuck this-just keep saying it's meant to be- but I do think you will earn Pogo's undying devotion if you can get him. As much as my husband loves Tommy, he is a little jealous, because, as he says, he's never seen an animal look at anyone with more love than Tommy shows when he looks at me.
Oh, love the watch!

Ok as promised here`s the pics of the new babies, we have six new puppies here with us now at the shelter, say hello to
Lily, she is a real cutie but for whatever reason has absolutely no tail ?
then we have,Tasha, she is anything but shy and you dont go near her when she is eating
Then we have the four little brothers and sisters, firstly there is
Toffi a sweet little boy
This is little Sally
Matty ,he is very shy
The biggest Sonny
There were two others, Toby and Ruby but they have already found new homes
and finally we have Abbie, who arrived an hour ago , she is so young and tiny she can not even walk yet, so its bottle and formula time again
She seems fine but has a small eye infection .

.
We now have the details of our upcoming auction as a sticky on the general page.
