We have great neighbors....pretty much all of them. Yes, even the renter across the street with the Harley, 3 kids and a dead front lawn. (But, he is a really nice guy.).

This neighborhood is a close group of peoples. We go out to dinner with our neighbors across the street...their kids call us the 'drinking buddies' although we are more like 'dinner buddies'

We even party together

I guess you can say that we celebrate life

The socialphobic squirrel-lady (kinda like a cat-lady, but with squirrels) at the end of the block passed away recently, and we held a short memorial service for her on the 4th of July. She would always watch the neighborhood block parties from her front window and then send a thank you letter about what a great time she had.

Our longtime (35 years) neighbors down the street moved this morning. Last night, all the neighbors had a block party for them and there was plenty of food and drink. Early this morning, most of us were outside waving to him when he pulled out of the neighborhood (with his pop-up) for probably the last time.

Not many 'hoods like this one
Lucky, we is.

I'll look into it And yes, I'll gladly water your plants and tend your garden while your gone. Although, I like my margaritas strong and my wine red. That's all a good neighbor really needs to know right?

Oh, Bonny! This story made me feel so sad for her. Agoraphobia? Or just social anxiety?

I read the memorial part, but it didn't register. I just went on to the block party and how she always sent a card. I thought that was sweet. Which made my remark about a welcome card so insensitive. Sorry

We have it made, one of my best friends lives next door and since we are both pet people, we watch each others "kids" when one of us is out of town. Right now is my turn, but she comes home late tonight. The house on the other side is a big two story that is being rented by no less than 5 or 6 adults. They all work and are for the most part quiet, and the doctor owner of the home keeps the home and lawn well maintained, so what do I care how many of them there are. Golf course behind the house that provides us with lots of nature watching (bunnies, squirrels, racoons, bob cats and a couple of weeks ago a wolf). Pretty cool.

For next years Peep Awards, I'm going to suggest a King/Queen of the one liners category. And you've got my vote

She forgot to mention the mosquitoes. They are lousy neighbors.

Didn't even think you were being insensitive...just thought my post was too long.

Probably both....
Don't be sad. She dealt with her illness in her own way-under her control. She felt safe in her house. She was 84 years old--an x-WWII nurse.

I never once talked to her. The only person she talked to, moved yesterday. He would come and tell the neighborhood how much Dixie enjoyed the party, etc. She knew all of our names and would ask about all of us She was happy in her own world. We were relieved to hear that she passed quietly in her sleep-no pain.

Growing up, I was friends with the boy my age that lives next door. Around middle school he decided that girls had cooties and we haven't hung out or even talked ever since then. That was over a decade ago!

I have no idea who lives across from me. The only thing I know about them is they like to take their really old and REALLY loud car out for a spin up and down the block at 8 in the morning on Saturdays. It's annoying
