My wife and I quit 26 years ago on New Years eve, that was just before we decided to have kids. She started a couple of time, but I would'nt let her so we're both smoke free. When we were in Playa this year at a bar in the IB Del Mar, Istruck up a conversation with a man from Belgium. We had a beer together and he pulled out a pouch of tobaco and a pkg of rolling papers and it seemed kinda neat, so he offers itto me and I declined then decided "what the heck it looks interesting" . I go about rolling as best I could ( to the amusment of the bartender) what looked ver much like a "joint". The guy then proceeds to roll one for me and I light it.
The wave of nicotine that ran thru me WTF, I turned to my wife and said "hold my arm I may fall down". Now the bar tenders laughing and it was kinda funny but that was one of the worst feelings ever and galvanized the fact that I will not touch them again.
Try rolls of peppermint life savers, you can fiddle with the roll and pop one as you would put the cig in your mouth. Good Luck!!

i quit 15 weeks ago after many years of smoking because of a book i read. it's called "Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr. he focuses on the fact that smokers are dealing with a nicotine addiction rather than a habit or crutch. it takes a cognitive approach rather than a fear mongering, shaming, blaming, etc. one. it's working for me, surprisingly easy, painless - hopefully for you too. here's a link: Allen Carr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I smoked my last cigarette 4 years ago last May.

IT WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE FOR MYSELF!

Those of you that have quit, congrats!

Those of you that are trying I say don't give up, you can quit. Remember, the same method does not help everyone, if the patch does'nt work, try Wellbutrin or the new pill Chantix. Just keep trying.

Those of you that are still puffing,
I know what you are going through, and if I can ever help you or talk to you about quiting I would be happy to.

YOU GO GIRL!!

It's so hard, but SO worth it!! I can tell you first hand that becoming a non-smoker is just so liberating. After a while, there are no more annoying cravings to interrupt your life. You'll no longer have to plan your life (work breaks, plane layovers, etc.) around where/how you'll be able to feed the beast. You'll smell better. You'll look better. Your food will taste better. You'll have lots more money in your pocket.

Congratulations on taking the first step.

Congratulations on quitting! This is awesome! I agree...when I stopped smoking for those 9+ months, I realized that the habit was not too difficult to kick but the actual nicotine craving was the hardest part. It truly is a craving that your body thinks that it needs. The lack of physical activity of smoking only took a couple of days to adjust to.
Thanks for the recommended reading.

Yes, diet and exercise - gotta do it or else! Matter of fact - every time I get a wee bit discouraged when I haven't lost any more weight, my trainer reminds me that I actually DID lose 20 or so pounds because when I quit in Feb 06, I didn't gain anything and haven't since. The first time I quit a bunch of years ago, I gained 25 pounds and the problem is that I'm still hanging on to some of it and now have to work extra hard to get rid of it!
