Day One-Smoke Free
Well, it's been a long time coming. Smoking for so many years and never thought too much about it until about 14 months ago. Decided to quit. Oh was that first month hell but it became much easier as each day passed. Then one day, I picked it back up. UGH. Why would I do that? Nine months smoke free and I felt like I absolutely had to have one. One turned into smoking for another four months. I blamed it on so many stresses and various other reasons but the bottom line...I need to quit. This habit is disgusting and I really hate living my life around a habit. Smoke one on the way to work, one at 10am or so, one around 3:00ish, another one the way home from work and then 10+ before I go to bed. Gotta quit. So...I woke up this morning, hopped in the shower and told Dave, "this is it...I'm done smoking". Got out of the shower, stuck a left over patch from a year ago on my arm (God I hope it still works) and have gone through my day doing laundry, bleaching everything and tossing away all signs that I was ever a smoker. I do not think that this time will be so difficult. Let's think about this...most people (myself included as I am the BIGGEST procrastinator) will say, "I'll begin tomorrow (stop smoking, eating healthier, pay that bill, call that friend) but it hit me this morning that I just need and want to do this...TODAY. Eight hours later and still no smoking for me. I know it may sound cheesy or "it's only been 8 hours" but this is it...I feel good about this. What the hell...If can pack up my life in a few months from now to move to a different country where I know very little spanish, try to start a new business and make new friends, what makes me think that I cannot quit smoking??? This will be easy in comparison. Anyone else out there care to join me?

WAAAAAAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You've done it before. You can do it again. And THIS TIME, you've just gotta beat it into your brain "NOT ONE, NOT EVEN ONE PUFF". I was quit for over 2.5 years (9/01 - 5/04) when I started again. And I hate it. Scares the hell outta me what I'm doing to my body. I'm not procrastinating, but I WILL be quitting again. After I do the move in September and the mortgage payments start, I'm hoping the additional $160+/month that I'd be saving by not buying those awful cancer sticks will help my incentive to quit again once and for all. I LOVED being a non-smoker. I really really loved it. Put on close to 30 lbs. but then joined Weight Watchers and took it off in about 5 months. And I also have a GREAT guy who'd much rather have me a little chubbier but a whole lot healthier than I am now. I'm glad you've got the patch. Good move and they help a LOT. Again for you: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Quit in February...still quitting..I am one of those who can never, ever have another cigarette...been there, done that..its my demise.....have not had ONE cigarette since I quit after my Playa trip in February...I still have the "urge" every now and then, but very deep breathing helps on those few occasions.(secret tip here!
)....I used the gum for a fairly long time and ate about the maximum each day..(started on the lower strength gum)....then I had to go wean myself off THAT addiction! ![]() So...one day at a time...deep breathing...nicotine withdrawal aids and about 12 lbs, have been the keys to my success ![]() Benefits? I smell better...no, not that I smell with my nose better...I just smell better to myself and to other people ...AND..and here is the biggy....I don't snore anymore...so my wife loves me even more now! ![]() Best of luck to you......you can do it!

Ahhh...thanks so much for the vote of confidence. I wish you so much luck when you decide to quite smoking again. YOu can do it. I will personally buy your first box of patches/gum when you decide to do it...Just let me know. I know the stresses that come with moving so I am hoping that I will be COMPLETELY craving free when we drive down in December. Playa is my incentive. Nic free in paradise.

I found a wonderful web site (free of charge) where I got help and was able to help others as we quit and tried to maintain our mental stability! It's called QuitNet and is at: www (dot) quitnet (dot) com. I highly highly highly recommend that anyone who's tackling the quitting process give it a look. It's an ideal place to get tips to help you hang onto your quit, and I found it helpful to ME to be able to help and encourage others also. I will definitely become a regular there once again when I quit. |
