![]() She must be pretty accommodating ! Hey as long as they take good care of their kids and are not expecting some one else to foot the bill - then why not have as many as they want. They probably take better care of their kids than some familys do. To each their own. Last edited by TAPPY; 08-06-2007 at 04:41 PM.. |

I've seen some of the Discovery Channel series about them and found it just chilling. It's like she's a baby factory, pushing out little robot children.
They all dress in the same color every day (ostensibly to help with laundry). Each older child has one or more younger siblings that they are responsible for essentially raising. They all have pretty serious chores to do each day. (Not that I am against kids doing chores, but an 11-year-old cooking meals for 18 people is a bit much.) And they adhere to a rather rigid schedule of lessons, chores and regimented activities like music lessons. These children are growing up in what amounts to an institutional setting. Not a lot of room for individual attention or expression. Growing up, I knew lots of families (predominantly Irish-Catholic) with large families - as many as 12 or 13 kids. But somehow the kids were still kids. The Duggar family just seems different - like they are more interested in making a statement (and gathering publicity via TV shows, a web site, etc.) than just raising, loving, and enjoying their children as individual human beings. |

I am of a family of 12 kids. I am Number 9...8 brothers, 3 sisters (and I'm a girl, too). There is a 27-year age difference between the oldest child and the youngest child. I currently have 19 nieces and nephews, two of which are already married. AND there's still several of my siblings not yet to have children yet!
We grew up just like every other middle-of-the-road working class family. We were certainly not poor, by any means, but we absolutely did not have a lot of money, either. My mother hasn’t worked in over 30 years. I’ve seen the story of this family on television, and I have to agree that this family is a little out of control. I mean … they really are giving up a lot of their childhood in order to take care of others within their family unit. They spent what, 2 years? Working on building their new house. What about getting those kids involved in sports? Allowing them to make friends outside of the family? What kid wants to spend every moment with their brother and/or sister? I think it is families like this that put a sour taste in your mouth. If you were to know the family that I am a part of, you may have a different opinion. My family is close, wonderful and all individuals. My parents are awesome, my mother especially. I couldn’t ask for a better mother (although it did take me 20-some years to realize this!). |

I believe that large families can work if that is what the parents want and make sure they meet the responsibility of feeding, clothing, and educating their children. Besides this, teaching their children to be indiviuals. These parents are raising candidates for a cult. |
