Wanna have 17 Children?
A woman in Arkansas recently gave birth to her 17th child. Sorry... but, in my opinion, this isn't a family, it's a factory. It almost seems like a joke, with all the "J" names, and the fact that they want to keep on going because the boys outnumber the girls.

Sorry, but I just don't get it. How can you even KNOW your children that well, much less give each one the love and attention he/she deserves? CLICK HERE for the rest of the story. |

There have been a few TV shows about this family on Discovery TV - you should see the house they built. You got to hand it to them, they live debt free. (no mortgage or credit)
I believe the reason they keep having kids is because they are super religous and they dont believe in birth control. They also home school all the children and each child has to learn to play several musical instruments. I just dont see how the woman can take it physically (and mentally) - but from what I gather, the older kids help raise the younger ones. Last edited by TAPPY; 08-06-2007 at 09:57 AM.. |

My aunt had 14 kids. She had her first baby when she was sixteen. The first time I visited them in Laredo, Mexico, where they lived, was when I was nine. We didn't stay with these relatives but with another aunt who lived next door. My cousins' ages ranged from 24 to a newborn. I knew then that the reason for the abundance of children was that my uncle, my mom's brother, would come home drunk and very lovey dovey. In fact, he was in jail when we arrived; he had been involved in a bar room brawl. She didn't have much of an education and with so many children, she had to stay home. To keep the family going, my uncle would have to work in Chicago for around nine months of the year and send some money home. The two older children, which were men, went with him and got jobs there.
The rest of my cousins were very resourceful because some of them would shine shoes, sell newspapers, and gum, carry groceries, and run errands for neighbors. Others would help at little stores sweeping, stocking, etc. The older ones would help with the younger ones. I admired them because they were more mature than I was and they had many responsibilities with which they were trusted. On top of this, they went to school. I had gotten very upset with my mom because she had packed some presents from my birthday party, toys that I didn't play with, and clothes that I didn't wear anymore to take to them because we would be in Laredo over the holidays. Besides these things, she had bought notebooks, pencils, pens, and some other things. Being one of two kids, I was jealous. When I saw them recieve these things...I felt like hell for being so petty and like an ass for looking down my nose at kids working on the streets. It can be done, but it is an incredible commitment. My aunt always looked tired and anxious but she managed to give a lot of love to my cousins and even, me. Watching her deal with all of my cousins and putting up with my uncle was the best encouragement I could have not to get pregnant. The majority of my cousins have great jobs in Chicago. One is a minor league baseball player in Mexico. My aunt is still around; she goes back and forth between Laredo and Chicago. I am unaware of if she has had problems because of having so many children. I wouldn't doubt it if she has.

I read that she has been pregnant for over 10 years of her life!!!!
No this is not for me. As long as they have the means to support these children and are raising them well More power to them. I have seen interviews with them and all the children seem to be polite, respectful and help out with the other kids. They seem to have a strong sense of family. |
