There was a federal judges' ruling three weeks ago that outlawed driving on the beach on the Hattaras National Seashore I believe, here's the article

Your daughter's probably too young, but the sunset cruises on the sound-side of the OBX are nice for a little bit of nature ... they usually pull up a crab pot, and some of those buggers are big and nasty! Most let you bring a cooler ...

This is a great restaurant! We eat always make it a point to eat there when we're in the OBX. It's also a favorite amongst the locals.

The Weeping Radish in Manteo is a wonderful place for some lunchtime sausages and good beer (brewed to the purity standards set in Germany back in the 1400's)

Wonderful stuff. Great, sustainable, re-use, re-cycle kind of place.

Wow, no kidding.... thanks for pointing out that article. It's too bad that some reckless drivers can spoil it for the majority of ORV's who respect the environment and the wildlife. We've been sticking closer to home for the past couple of summers and get an annual permit now for driving on the outer beaches (National Seashore) on Cape Cod. They are regulated by the National Park Service. Hopefully the Outer Banks will follow suit and come up with a plan that suits everyone. There is nothing like driving to a deserted stretch of beach and setting up camp for the day and doing a little fishing.

It's got a great vibe and really good food, and lots of good beer on tap! We always try to get there at least once when we are down there.

That was another spot I meant to mention! Definitely worth a trip.
If you get down to Ocracoke, check out Howard's Pub.
And on Hatteras, we always liked the Tiki Grill in Salvo.
