Endeavour heads for space station with teacher on board - CNN.com

She was trained as Christa McAullife's backup before the '86 challenger disaster. Now its her turn... Very inspirational to me...

Hey guys... Nice to pop my head up for a quick breather...

Saw this article. I had known there was a teacher on board. I was not aware of the historical connection to the '86 challenger disaster. I must admit, I teared up a bit with patriotic pride as I read the cnn article. The spirit of Leif Erickson, Christopher Columbus, Neil Armstrong, etc., lives forward to this day... Some days, its really, really nice to be an American!

I thought about that tonight, it happened on my birthday. I think of them every year and am proud to share that day ...

Heard an interview with her several weeks ago on NPR. She's not just a "teacher in space," she's a bona fide astronaut. She moved with her family to Houston in 1998 to train as an astronaut full time.

Unfortunately no...my airline would charge me $100 to change my ticket, and then charge me for the difference in price. Too bad, eh? But I have too much to do anyway before leaving for Europe anyway. It's too bad I'm going to miss so many great people
