Read the article..there is of course no reason to pay $2000 to get your house cleaned of mercury. This would be what I would call a ...well....er....a misrepresentation of the problem

Well, at the time, the lady certainly didn't know that. Nor did the people she called, including the state Government. Not exactly her fault, was it.

Getting rid of it is not exactly the same as getting rid of a normal light bulb either, is it?

Of course not...read the article...and of course, you would know that when you read the packaging of any CFL, right?

Education is important..that is for sure... and we need a lot more of it....but, promulgating irrational fear with only part of a story is sensationalist and detrimental to that education process and in resolving our societal problem of pollution and certainly mitigating the contributors to human-caused global warming.

Do you know how much mercury is put into the air for us to ingest from the burning of coal ? Read the article. Do you know which fish we eat contain the most mercury? Check this out .

Do you know how ridiculous it is to spend time with a story like this one claiming ""We may be doing more harm than good" relative to global warming mediation efforts....its very ridiculous, harmful to the cause of mediation of the harmful, human-caused factors contributing to pollution and global warming...and even harmful to anyone trying to make a reasonable case that sometimes we go too far in trying to make a reasonable response to a perceived problem...again, it is full of facts, but very little knowledge or wisdom.....but thats JMHO.

Well, if you care for the environment, wouldn't you want to be educated as to what causes what? No one is saying do nothing. What the environmentalist who was quoted in the article is trying to promote is the idea that if you really want to cut down on carbon emissions, you should do some homework, rather than relying on pop stars and politicians telling you what you should do.

He cares so much that he wrote a book on the subject. Maybe you ought to read it.

Hey, anyone who posts an article like that and tries to use that article as the basis to make the point that we may be doing more harm than good as we take action on global warming deserves a little challenge.....its sort of like making folks think they will have to pay $2000 to clean up after a CFL breakage....

edit: Hey it says Rush now! I hope you bought some carbon offsets considering all that energy you used to correct that, you wastrel.

I have already responded to that question..your rhetorical repeating of it tries to make it seem as if I have not...that bothers me.

Maybe you should quit trying to make your little political points over and over again with innuendo, weak science or false logic...

Maybe you should stop being so defensive and actually read what the hell I posted. There wasn't any innuendo, weak science or false logic. It was an article that shows that not all of what you think you know is truth.

Interesting article; however, it assumes that greatest caloric percentage of our diet comes from meat and cheese. It would follow, then, that walking is more energy efficient if one is a vegetarian or scant meat eater? Even an average meat eater doesn't get the majority of his calories from this source.

His point at the end about organic dairy farming misses the boat. Of course those cows produces less milk. They are not hepped up on harmful steroids and pesticides meant to unnaturally increase thier milk production.

More harm than good is always a trade off and he makes some interesting points, imo.

I imagine the more veggie one is, the more energy efficient. He did point out that, in England anyway, a lot of veggies are imported, which leads to more energy consumption.

If we do kill all the cows, I am going to need to get a bigger freezer.
