Woodman will correct me if I'm wrong, but I took his "ho hum" as meaning that war (on global warming) is better than jaw-jaw and change won't happen until people are prepared to make personal sacrifices.
Having said that, I think jaw-jaw hasn't extended its welcome, most of all in the US where the current government is short-termist in the extreme and seems to worry more about its political power base's share dividend earnings (the elite, in Dubbya's own words) than Common Man's future generations: could the jostling for military supremacy and strength have anything to do with any future and inevitable shortage of resources? ![]() Establish yourself as topdog now so that the elite won't go without later on... and to Hell with trickle-down, that has been shown not to worth the spit it was spewed out with. |

I don't think his "ho hum" comment had anything to do with Global Warming. I think it had everything to do to reel you all in for a good argument, and you all fell for it hook, line, and sinker. In the meantime, this is where i think this discussion is going

it seems to me that people around here lately are just getting downright mean. I don't understand it....it never used to be like this here. But I think it really drives people away when people are constantly arguing, fighting, throwing nasty comments out to others, etc. Some people maybe don't care who leaves, but I think if one really enjoy this place and hanging around here, one would be concerned about the direction the board has been going lately. Just my two cents, and it may not mean anything ot anyone. *shrug*

The change that is required is in our best interests in the long term in so many different areas. The personal sacrifice we must make will only get larger as time moves on without doing even the easiest of things that are in our best interests. We need a LOT of people doing these things together and consistently. My suggestions have been that we all begin working a little harder at least doing the easiest of things..due to the availability of artificially cheap, non-renewable, dirty carbon-based energy sources in the past and our resulting lack of attention on conservation and technogical investment focused on solving this inevitable energy problem, there is still a LOT of low hanging fruit here to pick ![]() CFLs/LED's, higher mpg vehicles, buying local wherever possible, recycle, car-pooling, supporting more mass transit, turning out the lights as you leave a room, buying higher SEER appliances when you buy new things...green building, sustainable development, invest in renewable energy vs. dirty, non-renewable carbon based energies....etc. etc.. etc Do MORE, make larger personal sacrifices if you can, if you will......we need that...but at least do something that is in your best self-interests if you cannot do the larger personal sacrifices. We will still make progress. Improved technology, vision, personal and community wisdom and discipline first...perhaps then we can ward off some of the most serious personal sacrifices that will be necessary in the future if we do little today. It can be fun and exciting to meet these challenges head on with vision and enthusiasm. These are just not big, personal sacrifice type things in my opinion... It will get much worse after you and I are gone, it will affect the whole world and whole new generations. I care about that even if it may not affect me that much personally. Now. Last edited by Daddy B; 12-17-2007 at 08:17 AM. |

![]() While I rarely contribute to this thread, I feel very strongly about this important issue, which affects us all. This issue (and thread) are anything but ho hum. Thank you for all those who have taken the time to post and provide links.

Jacko-care to share any thoughts as to what your crystal ball sees in 2027, as far as where our energy might come from, what we'll drive, and any appreciable changes in lifestye, as we try to head off climate change? Limits on personal "carbon footprints", curtailed recreational travel, taxes on excess energy consumption, energy rationing (for the purpose of limiting CO˛ releases), rich vs. poor regarding energy consumption-that kind of thing. For instances, I've heard it said (not from experts) that the migration to the suburbs will reverse, and that people will start moving back into downtown areas as gas prices increase. Not looking for debate fodder-just what you think the future holds. PDS-I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this same question.
