Hello hello hello! (from Hull, England)

Hola!!! Rachael in Hull, England here..... Like a few others, I stumbled on this site whilst googling for updates on how Playa has fared through Dean (I have family that have lived in Playa for many years).
Have never visited Mexico yet, but am coming over to spend New Year and the first couple of weeks of January with the family. Can't wait to be there!

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I am so pleased I found this site and cannot WAIT to get over there. I am a little nervous, as am coming over on my own, but am hoping staying at a hotel in PDC itself I will be able to get the best of both/all worlds. Reading this site I am starting to feel at home and as though I'm a native already, and I hope to get to know some of the locals/ex-pats through here before I arrive.

Although I am staying at an AI hotel (the Gran Porto - I will be checking with my TA on the room confirmations since reading some reports on here(!) - the AI option all in all seemed easier for a first trip), my hope is to be able to just use the hotel as a base and mingle around PDC itself to get a real flavour of the town rather than just a sterile AI environment. Like I said, I have family that live in PDC (my now-elderly English uncle married a local girl 20-odd years ago) and they and their daughters/extended family live downtown.

I'll be celebrating my birthday in Playa too..... its actually my birthday on New Years Eve!

Oh god, don't you start! I have a shopping list as long as my arm from my uncle! In fact, its such a big list I daren't now bring any of it for fear of being detained at customs - never mind the extra suitcase it would require.

On a serious note.... is it possible to send food parcels by courier to PDC?

... if only Melton Mowbray golden crusted pork pies would survive the trip too... slurp.

Yes, you can send parcels by FedEx to Playa. They're the most reliable, but it's not cheap.

Royal Mail Overseas arrives eventually, but the service can be dodgy at times. So it's safer to use a private courier such as FedEx.

How much would a parcel cost through FedEx, do you think? And is there any foodstuff that wouldn't be allowed in?

It varies a lot by weight and size.

Try this site for more info. With a detailed quote options it lists any approved goods: http://www.fedex.com/gb/

However I'd get a specific quote as the web quotes seem too high. There's probably a non priority service that costs less.

Ultimately very kind people who offer to 'mule' goodies over () is the best way.

Cheers mindbender. I struggle to travel light so any extra baggage caused by "mule-ing" is going to sink me, especially when the shopping list grows each time I speak to or receive an email from the man. Thanks again!
