Fajitas availability in PdC?
First of all I'd like to appologize for the topic since I know that fajitas are not a typical mexican food. Secondly, I tried to post this under the Charrangos thread and was not allowed to so here goes....
I know that fajitas are tex mex but did not put 2 and 2 together regarding the whole origin of where they come from and so on. So I'm left wondering if I will even be able to find them in Playa. This is one of my favorite "Mexican" or so I thought, meals. Now I'm looking for authentic flour tortillas which I've read are little difficult to find in Playa because the typical tortilla is made of corn. Don't get me wrong because I love those too and will be stuffing myself silly all week. I'm just looking for the most authentic I can get to fajitas , while being in Mexico. Now I know they must have them at TGI Fridays, but I can get those here at home and to be honest, I don't even order them there because they are no good. So my question is Where in Playa can I find "authentic" fajitas? Please give me some hope. Thanks |

I also love a good fajita, and it's certainly different than the tex version, you can get 'em (with flour tortillas) all over. The main difference is there are not as many vegetables, and there is a lot more cheese. They also don't come sizzling on a separate plate, with a little dish of grated cheese etc. the cheese is cooked into the thing and it's served on your plate. As for where to get 'em... Tango Taco makes a good 'mexican' fajita. Or El Fogon

Fajitas are made with Skirt steak "aka" Aracherra. If you order a taco de Aracherra it will be the same meat on a corn tortilla with salsa onions and cilantro. Almost the same but with no grilled onions or bellpeppers. That's as close to fajitas your going to probably get. Just as tasty IMHO.

Wow! Thanks!
You guys are all so nice.... I didn't know I'd have so many choices. I'm not big on peppers but I sure do love cilantro and pico de gallo. I can't wait to be in Playa and eat Mexican food, my favorite. Thanks for all your suggestions. Terry |

The best fajitas I have had in PDC are at La Parrilla. Just as good as the ones we make in Texas (I was a little suprised and delighted). La Parrilla is much more of a tourist spot, but the food has been consistantly good for the seven years we have been going to PDC. Ask for a table upstairs overlooking 5th for a pretty good place to "people watch".

I agree. The fajitas you're looking for from the sounds of things can be found at La Parrilla. They are made just like the fajitas in the States but are better. I had the grilled shrimp fajitas there a few years ago and they were the best I had.
Now I really recommend you trying other dishes the town has to offer. It is good to have one meal like that but definitely expand your horizons. The Mexican food you get in town will blow away the Tex-Mex you get in the US. |
