Food without garlic?

Hi,
I have been lurking on here for ages and reading about all the wonderful food. BUT, does it all contain garlic? I cannot stand the stuff and can taste even the tiniest bit in any food and just can't eat it. So, is there anything that doesn't contain it or am I going to be living on salad for two weeks
Thanks

The only food in my world that exists without garlic is ice cream...and ok, maybe Cheerios. Maybe you can ask for your food without garlic when you order. I'm sure someone smarter than me will jump in and correct this, but it may be "sin ajo"

I am with you Jan! There can be no food without garlic (hey they must make garlic icecream somewhere). Sorry can't be of help either. You may find it difficult IMO.

They make garlic Ice cream in Gilroy, CA. I've tasted it once.....once. I love garlic but not garlic ice cream. Just say "no Ajo por favor" or "sin Ajo por favor" and you should be ok.

I've met one of the owners of a Stockholm restaurant bar that has garlic in everything, including ice cream. Strange theme to me, as there seems to be no need to push the limits with the appropriateness of garlic (it's in almost everything I cook) so why do I need it in my beer and coffee or vanilla shake? Still mean to stop by next time I'm in Stockholm.

Personally, I love garlic.
And now that James mentioned a garlic restaurant in Stockholm, it reminded me that there's one in Amsterdam as well that I have yet to pay a visit.

I suppose that means you're not close to Stockholm, plus it made me wonder: (close to) where will you be settling anyway?

Thanks for the replies. I can see I am in the minority here ! I have trouble here in the UK asking for things without garlic so I imagine I am going to really struggle in Playa.
I've tried to like it, I really have, but its not happening!

Don't worry Jim.... you're not totally alone in the avoiding regular ingredients lark. I will be calling on the advice of the regulars/locals nearer the time of my trip for when I am in Playa. I have allergies to yeast and dairy and also have to avoid egg and fish!

Avoiding yeast and dairy is an absolute killer. (Garlic I am fine with however.)

Personally I love garlic.

I've never seen garlic used much in Mexican cuisine. They use more tomatoes, onions, cilantro and other spices. Italian cuisine does contain lots of garlic. I think you'll have more problems in Italy than in Playa. If you wan't to be absolutely sure that you won't get garlic, just ask for "no ajo por favor" as suggested by Dos Locos.

Have Fun!

Garlic figures in just about every true Mexican recipe I've ever seen. It's in a lot of the sauces and this poster will probably have a hard time here if he doesn't eat garlic. Of course, he will just have to be careful and stay away from the sauces, mostly.
