Advise please,Tossing the idea around about bringing bottle of Tequila with us on vacation. But since we cant carry on anymore.Im afraid of disaster in suitcase or theft. I can put in plastic flask but still no guaranty of making it down there safe. Can anyone tell me if they have seen El Charro Anejo in stores down there. If so Its probably cheaper there anyway right?Any info would be great ..Thanks.

buy it at the duty free when you get off the plane
You can get a good deal on liquor by buying it at the duty free shop when you get off the plane. The new terminal has a smaller duty free, but if you come in the old terminal, they have a great selection, although Sam's Club, Wal-Mart or Mega often have it as cheap or cheaper.
If you can find it, pick up a bottle of either Tequila Clase Azul or the Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia, the single best tequila I've ever had. It's pricey but well worth it. I gave it to a friend of mine and we both agreed it was the best we've ever had. I bought both tequilas at the duty free in the old terminal on my way out of Playa on the way back home. Quote:

Like bringing wine to Sonoma....
Definitely wait until you get to Playa if you are staying anywhere even close to town Browse a supermarket and hold your own private tasting back at your room. |

Like bringing baked beans to Boston.....
While standing in a checkout line at one of those big touristy t-shirt/souvenir shops on 5th one night, the tequila man talked me into trying a couple of samples of tequila they had on display. I have no idea what I tried, but they were good! And hey... who turns down FREE tequila mini-shots??

I dont want El Charro Reposado.....I want Anejo...And for those who have not tried this dont kick it.We have had Gca and many many others..Its just something we prefer thats all. We will try others while down there. And buy something different. But we like a good back up just in case. The El Charro Anejo taste close to Don Julio 1942 without spending a bunch of $$$$.Thanks for the info anyway..All We wanted to know is if anyone had seen El Charro Anejo in any stores thats all.

ditto. The duty free shops are only for departing passengers. Good tequilla is cheap in Mexico(go figure) so buy your tequilla when you get to Playa. Anyway the Cancun duty free prices aren't any cheaper than WalMart, Sams Club, Mega...etc.
