The Crooked Bush
No, sorry, it's nothing dirty.
![]() So last weekend my husband and I took him mom for a drive to see a local 'attraction' called the Crooked Bush. It's a grove of aspens near a farmer's field that are all twisted and deformed. They have been growing this way since the 1940's (at least). Of course, they play up the mystery aspect of it, theories like 'a flying saucer landed there and soil became changed' or 'it's an old Indian burial ground, and are they pissed!" to a meteorite crashed and affected the soil, etc. You aren't supposed to go there on a full moon, people get dizzy or something. ![]() ![]() The truth is far simpler (as usual); it was just a fluke genetic modification that is dominant over straight aspens, and the seeds spread, so that when you take a cutting and transplant them elsewhere, they still grow twisted. But it's pretty neat to see still! Pictures HERE Does your area have any mysterious attractions? ![]() |

Watermelons Everywhere in St. Bernard Parish
This one is puzzling thousands of people. St. Bernard Parish, virtually wiped out following Hurricane Katrina, is seeing the spontaneous growth of hundreds of watermelons. They're everywhere! It's a post-Katrina phenomenon that has even the experts baffled. "I've never seen anything like this before," said Dr. Ron Strahan of the LSU Ag Center as he surveyed the watermelon infestation. The fruit, which is normally planted in April, has been sprouting up all over St. Bernard Parish ever since Katrina. Presumably, the seeds were deposited during the hurricane and unusually high temperatures have produced a natural mystery. "It's just going to be one of those things we're probably not going to be able to explain," said Strahan. According to Strahan, the clay in St. Bernard absorbed the sunlight, retaining the heat and allowing the melons to grow. A watermelon's consistency is 90 percent water, which means if you eat the St. Bernard Parish melons, you're drinking Katrina juice. "I don't think I'd want to eat them," Strahan laughed. "I don't think so, but it's just something unusual to look at, maybe take some pictures of and remember this happened after Katrina 2005 and we'll probably never see again." Katrina may have planted the melons, but bees had to pollinate them, which indicates that growth is possible in St. Bernard Parish following the storm. Even if it is Katrina melons. Reporter: Jim Shannon (sorry this was the best I could come up with) !! ![]() But if you give it a few years I am sure I could come up with some pics of giant crabs living in the storm drains in New Orleans that eat small dogs & kids ! |

You hush, now.
![]() I made a joke to the hubby when he told we were taking his mom there....something about my waxer being cross-eyed.![]() Katrina melons huh! That is freaky, Taps. ![]() There is also a spot up by a town here in Saskatchewan called St. Louis, where there are' 'ghostly lights' shining at night (actually headlights from a highway reflecting on the train tracks or something.) Obiwan's UFO-Free Paranormal Page > Ghostlights > St. Louis Light But some still insist they are supernatural, of course!

Very Mysterious. The Texans beat the Cowboy's and the Astros fire their manager. Seems Garner kept leaving the bases loaded when they had a chance to score. Last edited by Gulliver; 08-28-2007 at 11:55 AM. |
