Thanks so much for the reply and the picture Chris! We will be there at the same time- we booked 6/20-6/29. We've got a group of 32 already!!
Anticipated some reviews within the next 2-3 months as I'm sure you are too. |

This resort is more of a timeshare, but you can rent one of the villas, that sleep up to six people and have a full kitchen. edit: the grand princess might be in this area though, they are building, building, building all along the beach! |

On Google Earth the Royal is just north of Playa del Carmen - it has a yellow dot that says Nekkid / Gay Beach (that's really what it says). Next up the beach is the Caracol complex, which has a lot of photos attached to it. Further up the beach is the Princess complex under construction. It's considerably larger than the Royal site.
Our May 17th group is up to 30 or 32 people now. We'll be ruling that Platinum lounge! |

We originally booked a standard jr, but then upgraded to the platinum after we reallized what a deal it was. we're there the 16th - 25th of May, so we'll have to stake out a corner before you arrive
The more I see, the more excited I get. I did finally confirm the location on Google maps and added a bookmark to make it easier to see. |

I booked a Villa at the Grand Riviera Princess for May, 25- June, 01 (its my honeymoon). Do you all know if the Grand Riviera Princess and the Grand Sunset Princess are the same resort, or are they two different places. At DreamsPrincess - Princess Hotels & Resorts they seem to look exactly the same. This will be my first time to Playa, and my first time out of the country (USA) for that matter. I am very excited about this trip and this resort looks very nice. Looks like we will all be there around the same time.

that I do know the answer to. Yes they are the same hotel. Riviera is one side and Sunset is the other side. Different tour operators book each side. I'm not sure why they are calling it two sep. Your the first person I've seen that booked a villa. I'm the resort is as good as it looks. I wish there was more information available on it.
We're actually leaving the day you arrive. |

Like I said this is the first time I have been to a resort like this...or any resort for the matter. So I wasnt sure what to book. But, since it is my first time I'm sure I will be inpressed with anything. But I really look for this resort to be awesome. My fiance ended up making the final call on the villa, just because she wanted the few extras that came with it over the platinum. The villa was the same price but you get a few extra things, but the villas arent on the beach. But since it is our honeymoon we kinda liked the privacy of the Villa as well. Also, I payed $2700 for 7 nights at the resort and air from Charlotte, N.C. to Cancun with a stop in Atlanta (for two fo course). This was a package deal on funjet . Is that a good price, or did I get burned on the deal.
I know this is kind of early, but what do you guys think the best way to get into town from this resort would be? We would like to explore Playa some, but it is about 10-15 minutes away...right? So would it be best to talk a taxi or a bus or what? Would it be possible, or a good idea, to walk into town from the resort? |

Not a bad price at all for the best rooms in the hotel. I would guess that airfare was at least half of that price. From there you can also take a ferry over to Cozumel. |

Thank you all for your replies.
I had figured it would be too far to walk from the resort just from looking at the map. But it never hurts to ask those who know best. I must have missed where it said that resort offered a free shuttle into PDC, but that will be very helpful. Im not sure exactly how much of the price was air fare, because funjet didnt break it down into air fare and hotel prices. But from looking at other sources for air fare it seems that the air fare was about 3/8 - half of the entire price. Well, with about 7 months to go before depature, Im sure I will have many more questions for you guys. Again, thank you for all of your help thus far. |

Shammy, help me decide
![]() I am torn between the Barcelo Palace OV club premium suite and the Grand Sunset Princess Platinum Suite. They are about the same price from your quote. My fears are: Sunset Princess won't open on time and we are going in April, and that my family will be disappointed with the Barcelo having no palapas by the pools or beaches and the reported poor service.... We had great luck with the Gran Sirenis this year, BUT we went 5 months after it opened...... I need to book with Shammy by tomorrow to get the good deal on the Barcelo Palace ![]() Opinions anyone ???? |
