Well, please keep in mind those of us who wanted to have more of a restful time. Not everyone that goes to Playa is in "party" mode. That's why some of us stay away from Cancun.
Ditto that. Leave the loud drunk ugly american at home. I have warned my college kids that drunken behavior is not acceptable at a resort. Just because you can drink all you want doesnt mean you have too.

we're all so excited! we're not going there in party mode, just to have a good time. i guess rowdy was the wrong word. i'm going with my family, so i have no intentions of being a drunk college kid. even if i wasn't going with my family, i still wouldn't be the drunk college kid. everyone is just excited to meet new people, relax, try a couple of new drinks, and get out of town for a week!

Yes, that's how it seemed to me as well. Steelerbeachbum, thanks for clarifying.

Cool

It's getting closer for me and hubby. We are finally getting away by ourselves. I am hoping not to encounter all the terrible things I have read by previous visitors. (GRP) I am going today to buy insect spray!!

Buy the wipes, if you can get them - I read here and elsewhere that they work great. I bought 60 individual pkgs. of Cutter Advanced from Amazon for something like $14.95.

No- it won’t be spring break.. I didn’t even get to go on spring break when I was in college !! What I meant by rowdy was that I’m sure we’ll be taking part in all of the activities and games at the pool and probably trying to get everyone else involved. We stayed at the Riu Cancun for 2 years in a row, and it sounds like the resort will be having the same types of activities as they did… which I’m excited about! Ha I can’t hold myself accountable for everyone else in our group, but I don’t think anybody will be out of control. I’m just hoping the resort takes groups out at night to places in playa.. because I think it would be fun to check out the nightlife!

Oh and kcarrowhead- you can tell the teens that there will be a number of teens/kids their age with our group- boys and girls.. maybe they can make friends! And we have family meeting us there from Houston too!

Traci - - thanks. I did buy a box of 40 (I think) Cutter wipes. I wanted some of the spray for extra protection! Also, a citronelle candle or two couldn't hurt. I assume they will let me use a candle on my patio/deck. I am very allergic to mosquitos. I take every precaution I can. Also, putting a dryer sheet through your belt loop (or anywhere hanging on your clothes) works also.

other remedies

The dryer sheets really do work. Also, a white plate (not plastic) and lemon scented Joy dishwashing liquid - put the liquid onto the plate and set it on the opposite side of the deck from where you are sitting. The bugs/mosq., etc., gravitate to that. It really works. Both of these "hints" were taken from Hints from Heloise. I don't think I'll be taking dishwashing liquid on my trip though. Who knows, I might find a small bottle!

Heys guys, I just read that if you spray Listerine around patio door, deck, room, even a little on your clothes, mosquitos won't be coming near you. Doesn't hurt to try and if it doesn't work; beats badbreath.
As for party goers in my group, of course, I will have no control over them but I'm taking a taser with me. (just kidding). We will be there to have fun but that does not mean without respect for others.
Chris, don't forget me regarding Akumal. Can't wait to meet you and your family/friends.

Carole..there's been a change of plans with the akumal gig. Due to the large # of people going I didnt think the PDC newbies would be able to handle going to and getting back to the resort being split up on several collectivos. I am renting 3 vans for the day and am going to Tulum ruins for an hour then to Playa Paraiso south of the ruins then hit Akumal on the way back to the resort for 2 hours. Costs about $20 pp. We have 3 seats left if anyone in your group is interested or you can do this yourself.

I may join the gang but I'm not sure. I have 53 people to take care of. Will confirm when I get there. My girls will probably join you. Thanks!

I mean you can do this with some of your group. If you want the details on the van rentals, 9 hours with drivers, I send you them. We are going Sunday (Tulum is free on Sun.) and thats the day after you get there, I am sure you will want to unwind for a while.
