Honeymoon

My fiance and I will be spending our honeymoon at the Grand Riviera June 16-23. We can't wait, this will be our first visit to Mexico or out of the country even, our first AI, and his first time seeing the ocean. Can you believe it! We booked the Platinum Suite and are praying for the ocean view. I see there are a lot of people on this post going at the same time as us, can't wait to have a cervasa with you all!!! Anyone have suggestions on ensuring us an ocean view room? We got the Honeymoon pack, but that only ensure us a King bed I believe.

Just wanted to throw that out to everyone that the "cheaper basic junior suite rooms" are going fast 6 months out!! When my travel agent looked yesterday only 9 were left at a great price. Today they were gone and had to upgrade, albeit for a good price, however higher because of the upgrade.
Good for you KC Arrowhead...I hope that you will have a great time down there. Keep it post it here...because I will tell you all about my vacation there in february 2008. By the way I used to have friends in Houston (Tx). I met them on vacation in Daytona beach in the 90's....I lost track of them....so sad.
I'm quite surprise to learn that all the junior suite rooms are gone for june vacation. Take care and keep in touch.

Anybody going to Grand Sunset in February?

My wife and I and 2 other couples are going to be visiting the Grand Sunset Princess on February 10th through the 16th. We are all excited to get out of the bitter cold and 8 inches of snow we currently have and soak up some rays. I have been reading lots about this resort so we decided to give it a shot. We have done all inclusives before and you just can't beat them. Has anybody seen any real photos or just the stock ones that are floating out there? Has anyone stayed at a Princess Resort before and what was the food like? Hope to meet up with some couples around our age and develop new friends. We have actually met folks from several different states on vacation before and we actually vacation together now. Pretty cool! The 6 of us that are going together are from Ohio, home of the BUCKEYES who will be playing for the national title on Jan. 7th. Go Bucks!

First of all what, a great place for your future husband to see the the Ocean for the first time!! The Riviera maya beaches and the color of the water are without question the nicest I have seen. After your trip and he sees the Ocean anywhere in the USA in the future it will not even compare at all!! As far as getting an ocean view room? This has worked for me in the past at other resorts although not a guarantee.. E-mail the customer service at the resort, be very nice and try to use some Spanish if you can let them know you are excited/anticipate your stay at thier resort and make a request for your room preference. also ask about the possibility of an upgrade at the time of your arrival and that you would be willing to take an upgrade if it were available. Just try it can't hurt! Looks like you'll be there on our last couple of days.. Maybe we will see ya there? Then again Ocean view with a king bed on your honeymoon?? I doubt it! KC

Thank you so much KC Arrowhead. I really can't wait, and I am so anxious to hear reviews from the early travelers. I know you probably feel the same. Do you think I should wait to email customer service closer to our arrival date?

I was hoping to hear from Carole by now too. There are a few people on Trip Advisor that are at the hotel as of today. Hopefully we'll get pics soon!!

Those are some brave soles going on the opening day. Even though we are going in 6 months, that is still very early for a new resorT to be operating efficiently.

Given he price i am paying, I do not presume operations will be running smoothly and with that kind of expectations I will have a fantastic time!

I'm back!!! Been in Mexico for 2 weeks. I must tell you that I stayed the first week at the Royal PDC and the second week at the Royal Cancun. These hotels do exceed your expectations and in my opinion are going to be very hard to beat. With that said, I trust and feel that we won't be disappointed with Princess. For those wondering what is the difference between the Riviera and the Sunset: They both share the same facilities, lobby, restaurants, etc....the difference is lets say that you are facing the beach, rooms for the Riviera are on the left and rooms for the Sunset on the right. That's basically it! I was warmly greeted by the wedding coord. and she gave me a site inspection. My first impression was: WOW, this resort is Huge! You go through the main building where the lobby is. Marble floors and all glass. There is a bar in the lobby and employees were practicing making drinks. They even had me try a drink that they will call their own but don't remember the name. N-E ways they were all so friendly. Restaurants (5 à la carte- included), buffet and disco are all in the main building. There is another buffet near the beach along with 2 more restaurants (Asian and Seafood - not included). As much as this resort is huge I like that it's easy to get around. Yes, the beach is a little far from rooms and main building but for folks who do not want to walk, transportation will be on site (I'm guessing golf carts). But hey, you're on vacation, it's not that far and what is a 5 - 10 minute stroll to the beach? I've seen much larger resorts. Now as for the rooms. The Junior Suites are very nice. Of course the Deluxe JS are more spacious, have a living area and a jacuzzi. Some have pool access and built in cement lounge chairs. I just love this category. These categories are all close to the main building. As for the Premium suites; they are closer to the beach and have jacuzzi outside on balcony. Make sure that if you are booking this category that you ask oceanview and on second or third floor. If you are on first floor, you will mainly see bushes instead of the ocean. The Laguna Villa Suite: these suites are dedicated for couples. It is very romantic and designed like in Bali or Tahiti with outside showers. Very nice. Near main building with private pool. The pool(s): absolutely amazing! There is blue water from the beginning to the end of the resort. There are three or four bars in the pool(s) so no matter where your room is on the resort, there will surely be one near you. The beach: this was the part that worried me the most but now my worries are over. It is a nice beach and you can walk on both sides for a long time. Facing the ocean, looking on the right, I saw some beach huts and these huts belong to the Fairmount Mayakoba. Of course, I did not have the chance to walk all the way to the F.M. so I cannot compare the beach but I know that the beach at the Princess is very nice and I was not disappointed knowing that some beaches in Cancun and R.Maya are not this nice after the hurricanes hit. They were building a bar on the beach while I was there but there were no construction or debris. The beach was very clean. This resort is a more modern and contemporary looking resort. The rooms and site are very much like the pictures and vitual visit shown on princess.com. I cannot comment on food or service but I'm not worried at all. I was not given permission to take pictures because, on Nov. 28th, the resort was not completely finished and decor and final touches were still being made. I must say that I understand. PDC is 10-15 minutes away and taxi is approx. $12US each way. There is a complimentary shuttle. Cancun is about 15-20 minutes away and I do suggest to everyone to go to the Coco Bongo Club. Out of this world...worth the taxi ride (approx. $20 each way) don't think there is a shuttle for Cancun. Prices are going up so don't be chicken and make your reservations now. You will never be able to go to a 5**** hotel in R.Maya at this price again. I cannot promise anything because being a travel agent, some customers always find something to complain about.....I may have left something out so if you have any questions, I will be glad to answer them, if I can of course. I have booked customers for Feb., March, April and June at this resort and I am very confident. You all have a nice trip and enjoy your vacation. And remember that a bad day on vacation is always better than a good day at work. Think positive and have a good time.
CHEERS!
