Steven Fossett Missing
Just heard he is missing since taking off from a Reno, NV airport, looking for a place to try and set a land speed record. The guy took a lot of chances and had several close calls. If anyone counld suvive a crash it would probably be him.

Unfortunately, it's very commonplace for VFR pilots to not file flight plans. Guys like him with all the experience he had sometimes get more complacent. You know the saying: There are old pilots and bold pilots...but no old, bold pilots! It's easy to Monday morning quarterback this thing, just like most airplane incidents/accidents. I just hope he's OK. |

they've set up the mission base at the airport in my town about 5 miles from my house. that's where one of my favorite bars is. maybe you'll see me on t.v.
they've expanded the search area to 600 square miles. there is the sierra nevada's, the pine nuts, the sawtooths, and a few other mountain ranges along with alot of desert. Last edited by jevans : 09-05-2007 at 07:12 PM. |

Ah yes, the synical side of me has to chime in. Maybe he doesn't want to be found! Dead or alive. He is smart enough and experienced enough to make sure all the proper safety precautions were in place. But they were not apparently. Maybe he planned this. This guy has the money and capability to disapearif he wants to. He could have altered his plane to fly a longer distance, land on a unknown airstrip in a remote location, and be living some sort of different life somewhere else. I would like to think that he took a bunch of money and flew to a very third world country and is living on a desolate beach with 6 topless polynesian girls. Or he flew into a mounatin that nocked out the locator device.
