Craig may not resign after all
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho may reconsider his resignation if he is cleared of a disorderly conduct charge to which he pleaded guilty last month, his spokesman said Tuesday.
"He's fighting this. He is innocent, and he believes that there's a good chance that he eventually will have this charge overturned and that the Ethics Committee won't act against him," Dan Whiting, a spokesman for the Idaho Republican, told KTVB-TV in Boise. But Whiting had said Tuesday it was still the GOP senator's intention to resign effective September 30, as Craig announced Saturday. Craig's hopes were buoyed by a call of support from Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pennsylvania, according to a tape of a voicemail Craig left. |

From what I've been reading in the Mpls.Strib he'll have a tough time overturning his guilty plea. I'm sure the repub powers that be aren't too happy with his decision. Sounds like this story won't be dropping off page one soon.

I hope he does fight it. I think it is time the country have a dialog about what personal behaviors should eliminate a legislator from serving in the capacity for which they are elected. As Mark, Stogey and others have pointed out so accurately -- what makes one Senator's actions wrong, and another's palatable?
I don't particularly care about a politician's sexual proclivities, one way or another. I don't think it effects the job they do; and I think the whole "might give an unfirendly something to blackmail them about" canard goes away if pols are allowed less puritanism judging them. There's more potential for blackmail if things are kept in the closet, so to speak. I think it's ironic that it should be a Republican Senator from a fairly conservative state that should fuel the dialog -- and I'm sure it's the farthest intent from HIS mind -- but it is a national discussion that should take place. |

I hear this news this morning. One of his sons was interviewed and he indicated that all of this was a misunderstanding. His daughter was lambasting Craig's buddies in the Senate for not being supportive of him. Craig has organized a "crisis management" team which includes Michael Vicks' attorney. Craig is now saying that it was his "intention" to resign on the 30th but he has decided to fight this.
Michael Vick's attorney? Disgusting. |

This is my question: DID THE MAN KILL ANYONE? What's all this media attention for BIPP sake, what dies he have to plea gulty for? manslaughter? Isn't being humiliated in front of the whole world for something that doesn't affect our society or his job in any way enough? Or was he found with a child? Or beating someone? This is amazing.

Getting caught soliciting sex in public restrooms isn't palatable for anyone. But Craig is an elected government official and like it or not they are held to a higher standard than everyday folks. His sexuality means nothing to me....that's between him and his wife.

Did he ever verbalize his request to the officer ? or show him his Johnson ??? or make strange noises ???
All I ever read was that he tapped his foot, ran his hand under the stall, and using a wide stance he let his foot touch the officers foot, and used his suit case to block the stall door ? Was there anything else ??? I really dont know - that is why I am asking. Sounds freaky, but still seems like he would have had to verbalize his request. I know to arrest some one for prostitution there is supposed to be a verbal request and money exchange right ??? Last edited by TAPPY; 09-05-2007 at 12:50 PM.. |
