Handy Hints/Quick Reference Section?

Hi -- I hope you had a nice time in the great North!
How hard would it be to create a new section that is nothing but an accrual of peoples' tips for different aspects of a PDC/Mayan Riviera vacation? Maybe it could be set up as an ongoing poll?

For examples, maybe one subject is "renting a car"
First poll could be: rent a car -- yes or no
Subsequent polls could cover benefits of renting a car, then disadvantages of renting a car

Maybe another subject could be "Packing List"
One poll could be: must brings
Subsequent polls could be: non-necessities; or things readiliy available in PDC

Maybe another subject could be, say, destinations. Let's pick Xel-Ha.
There are all sorts of little helpful nuggets of wisdom I learned from my day there. Like the better snorkeling (bigger fish) are at the bridges. The river ride is a non-event. Take your snorkel stuff with you on the river float, because you will want to stop from time to time, you will be so bord -- and you'll need the propulsion power of those fins at the end! The photographers there take really good pictures, and the prints are pretty cheap. You can rent towels there, instead of schlepping your own in. Obviously, get there early.

Anyway. What does anyone else think?

MWC,
The idea on the whole is a good one, in my opinion, but boy would it be a nightmare to look after. There are so many different topics asked about on here, that a list like you mentioned could be amazing... I talked to James about a way to at least highlight the info you want from other messages posted, and he was going to look into that...If they had the time however, I have to agree that a section carefully watched, and attended, would give insight to the uninformed. It would mean though, that there was some sort of agreement as to what was good, and what was bad....We all have our opinions, and that is why we have the general info site, etc...How would you determine what is important enough or exact enough to make it a spot on this new info site?
Dougie

I envision bar and pie charts -- lots and lots of colorful bar and pie charts!

Actually, this needn't be too high maintenance if James & Anna simply created an entirely new forum section for this, and people added their two cents worth. (Kind of like the "first time to playa thread" that was started a month or two ago.) I just know from experience here that the "search" function is an imperfect science; but it does get annoying (although perfectly understandable) to see the same basic questions asked again and again. The only maintenance that would have to be done is to make sure specific threads didn't veer too far off subject. Otherwise, tips and advice specific to each topic could accrue, with responsibility for retrieving and analyzing the information falling on the person looking for the info -- which is where it belongs!

I would make this a separate section from general topics, just so relevant matters don't get bumped off by topics that are less so. ("My wife's skimpy bikini" leaps to mind)

Maybe in addition to comments, to help people "weigh" the responses, we could have people who volunteer to be designated vacation prototypes, so similar vacationers could say -- oh, that's exactly what I had in mind. I, for example, could typify "budget-minded family, interested mostly in beach activities". DanaR could typify "active family vacationer", etc. That way, a swinging single isn't relying on some old homebody's gripes as gospel about a place, and vice versa.

How are the trailer relocation plans going? I read somewhere that there's a ferry from Tampa to Cancun, in case that long drive through Mexico is giving you pause. (It sure would me!)
