Help-hotel La Tortuga

Have read several reports on suites and swim up rooms at the hotel but nothing about the standard rooms. I heard that they are small , but how small is small?Has anyone stayed in these rooms? Would sure like to get some info. Do you know if they have transfers to Mamitas, their beach club? I can't find anything on it. Thanks, Don

Can't help with the actual room size but I think for one person, it would be big enough (I'm sure someone who has stayed in one will chime in). There is no transfer to Mamitas though - you'd have to walk or a take a very quick cab ride, which you could grab right out on 10th Ave.

Ma and I stayed in room 310 (I think) when we were at Tortuga. It was perfect for two of us. Two single beds, plenty of room to move around, even had a very nice balcony with plenty of room for two (and then some). Nice bathroom & shower. Sorry - no pics of the room, though.

We just returned from there, had a swimup room. We became friends with a woman who was staying there in a standard room. She said it was small but nice. There was a balcony, too, but it didn't face the pool so she didn't spend a lot of time on it. Not a big closet. She said she was quite happy with her room and the hotel if that helps!
And the walk to Mamitas is not as far as you think. It's probably 10-15 minutes, and that's just strolling. Pretty much everything takes that long to walk to in Playa, so it didn't feel far away for us.

I can't help you as far as the room goes because I never saw a standard during our stay there. I will tell you that the service is OUTSTANDING! They even remember your name. The breakfast every morning is just delicious and I cannot begin to explain just how relaxing the pool is. The mojitos are the best.

As far as the transport to Mamita's goes, it's just a 10 minute walk, however, if it's too hot you might want to take a cab. It will prob. run you a few bucks.

Hope this helps. Have a great time!

Stayed in one there standard rooms a couple of years ago and it was very comfortable. Not big but then you don't spend much time in the room. Also one of the best hotels in Playa. Enjoy

You'll hear in our trip report about the service...it really is phenomenal!! The houskeeping staff was always very nice and we really enjoyed the waitstaff at the restaurant too! Susan got sick in the middle of the trip, and they did everything they could to make sure she was comfortable and that we had what we needed. Even if the room is a little on the small side, I'd definitely stay there knowing that you'll have great service!

We stayed several times before we moved to Playa rooms are fine in general you only sleep there and you will be out doing other things anyway. The last few times we visited they were booked up and we stayed elsewhere many good choices in Playa. Enjoy your visit.

One experience - one opinion - take it for what it's worth...

Overall, La Tortuga is wonderfull. The staff is extremely friendly and helpfull, and the food is pretty darn good.

I stayed there a couple years ago, half the time in a standard room, half the time in a one step up (don't remember what it's called). The standard room (room 210 I think, but I'm not sure, I do know it was on the second floor) was small, but OK. A bit inconvenient was the fact that the closet was the only place to unpack to. Suitcases had to be on the floor, next to the bed. But even more irritating was the speed at which the bathroom sink filled up when shaving or brushing my teeth, and how long it took to drain. A look under the sink explained part of it: literally, bailing wire to hold it together. The toilet also took forever to refill, and water pressure in the shower was very low. Perhaps all these water problems have been fixed. Perhaps Anna could have Henry check on these things, and get a plumber to improve things. I know, it's Mexico...

The second half of my stay was wonderfull. There was plenty of space to store things in, and all the plumbing worked well. We loved that "one step up" room.

Why the differences? I have my guesses, but they'd be pure speculation.

Overall, I think La Tortuga is one of the best small hotels in PdC, but personally, I'd want to check on the plumbing for a standard room before signing on the dotted line.

I have stayed in a standard room 3 times at la Tortuga, yes it was a bit small but I was by myself and it served my puposes just fine. Shower and sleep..right? How much time is actually spent in a room in Playa anyway
