Anna, Thanks! The artist and Joanne worked on it for quite awhile, getting the colors just right to match the original tile, then expanding from there.

Smile Congratulations on Your New Home!

Karen ~ congrats on the new home!!!

I read that you'll be having a "Mexico Room" so here's ours. It's STILL a work in progress, as in needs to be re-stuccoed, and then painted ~ dark red below with a 4" Talavera tile band and a mustardy, orangey, yellow above ~ typical traditional Mexican color scheme. See the actual tile below. Most of the items in this room were purchased via the internet.

We may also install fake "beams" on the ceiling to add to a hacienda quality in the room.

The fake "wood" floor has already been redone with this tile which goes quite well with the stone fireplace.

This photo was taken during the actual tiling process.

Current blinds need to be switched out for dark wooden ones that match the furniture. This room is still a "work in porgress" but you get the idea.

Mantle with Catrinas and milagros. I nailed several hundred tiny pewter, brass, and copper milgros on all sides on the mantle. THAT was a real tricky job. OUCHY!

We bought furniture that we felt would give a "hacienda" feel to the room. The hand carved and hand tooled rockers were ordered from Peru (eBay) ~ at quite reasonable prices. Rear speakers sitting on the side tables are now on the rear wall. I found the Mayan statue (in front of the large display cabinet in the upper right) here in Tampa. It stands 3 feet tall and is VERY detailed and ornate. What a FIND!

During the summer, artificial daisies are placed in the fireplace for color. The three copper pieces are from Turkey. (eBay)

Our African Grey parrot, D-Day, with a hand embroidered wall hanging from Guatemala behind him.

Although this box is from Bali (used to hide candles and other assorted stuff), I felt the skeleton theme worked well with the Catrinas.

I LOVE this sideboard which matches the drawered tables on the outsides of both chairs. We also have two matching display/storage cabinets.

Matching leather chair are recliners. Peaking through into our "New Orleans" bedroom. The opening has pocket doors.

The mirror frame is hand tooled, painted leather from Peru.

The "yuck" black ceiling fan will be switched out for an ornate wooden one when we start working on the walls and ceiling.

Two quite large Catrinas that I found here in Tampa.

A gourd light we brought back from Playa.

During the summer, we display our signed Tiburcio Soteno Arbol de Vida on the fireplace hearth. It's very large and VERY heavy! It was first shipped from central Mexico to Tijuana, examined by the person I bought it from (eBay) repacked and shipped to me here in Tampa. I took a good FOUR HOURS for me to get it unpacked!

Thanks! The room will look VERY different once the walls are refinished and painted with the tile band dividing the colors about 1/3 of the way up the wall.

Because we do all the work ourselves, it seems to take FOREVER... I work full time and at my age I honestly just don't have the oomph (that I used to have when I was 30 or so) anymore that it takes to come home and work all night and weekends on our "projects." We are also currently working on our "Hawaii" room. What a construction mess! If I can just get Mike to finish up the drywall boxing with built in display lights, we'll be ready to stucco in there too and apply finishing touches of lauhala matting with bamboo on the ceiling and wainscoating.

I am HOPING that all the remodeling gets done before I die!

Great houses!! Someone mentioned my house and I didn't even post anything yet...

Silvergirl--beautiful "eggplant" color in that one room... so elegant;

Tonya--you know I love your kitchen and I think MY granite might be the same as well...

with the new light fixtures put in 2 days ago... sorry for the dark pics--facing the windows--probably should take them in the evening with less harsh light coming at me:

Roni--love your garden views... and your bedmates as well!!
Here's the view out my backdoor:

My family room:

Riley's room:

Robert--would love to have some of your wife's work on my walls

and Kayt--I'd love you have your view out the front door!

Sideways--beautiful decorating... I think I like that bathroom most of all too--and you're giving me some great ideas when we redo our little powder bath next year! Although that little courtyard is beautiful, too...

And Joanie--FANTASTIC job on the beautiful mix of colors, collectibles and treasures...

Sideways: Wow............what a beautiful home! I especially love the artwork in the guest bathroom. The back of the door is incredible! The vanity is lovely as well. The rest of your home is just beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing it!

JOANIEBLON: I love it Joanie!! Really does have a "Mexico" cozy feel to it. The colors remind me of being in Playa or even in the Carribean. Like a vacation in your own home!
Your stone wall is really incredible. Never seen a whole wall done in stone before.

That storage box from Bali sure looks like its from that store on 5th in Playa that has all the skeleton things........don't know the name of it but it was so cool!

!! Oh, Kathy.........please tell me this is from last year! Your home looks so beautiful, like a Christmas card......... but I hate snow and especially cold weather which we get plenty of here in Mass. Not looking forward to it this year. The farmer's almanac says it's gonna be a rough one!
